Is this bad?

Last night i was driving my car. Dont ask me why, but i wanted to see if i could take my car out of gear without pushing the clutch. Sure thing, i was doing 15mph in 2nd gear and i was able to put the car in neutral without pushing the clutch. Keep in mind that the car performs fine. No indications that i need a new clutch or anything like that. Is this a sign that i need to get something checked out?

No there's nothing wrong... far from it... your tranny's synchronizers are working great. If you tranny is running perfect you can actually change gears without using the clutch... not recommended because it puts a lot of wear and tear on the gears and sychronizers. I wish mine could dot that, but 1st and 2nd gears synchronizers are going out and causing it to stick till I push in the clutch.

You can actually downshift as well, but it takes timing, and knowing your car. I've gotten to the point in my Protege I only needed the clutch for taking off. And those occasional quick shifts needed.

Now I hate to brag... but you're good if you can feather the gas just right. Those cases are needed when you spend too long in one gear and over shoot the next. And you can rev the engine to the right spot so you slip into gear. Of course there's nothing you can do but use the clutch if you try shifting too soon.

I have mastered that much in my P5... but my Max is a different story. Of course it just screams "Quick shift so we can get the F out of here"

I have one those in my truck. Of course I use it for just cruising around or hauling stuff. Nice because it keeps my mind on what I'm doing instead of hitting that perfect shift.

And as I have told my parents numrous times... I'll never grow up. I have a uncle who I intend on being like when my body gets old. He's the biggest kid I know...LOL. He still refers to tools as toys. Which they are. And to finish this off, I will qoute him here.

"You can tell the men from the boys... by the price of their toys." Jim Moch

And I can say... we both have some pretty expensive toys.

Well. With that measure I am a boy. I reSign. ... used to have that shiftytouch with my jeep. (Last time needed it with my 9ton RV as clutch failed: getting one shift wrong on the return trip would have meant tow company.) Its funny trait: those musical men I know could never do that.

MONStermAX: What in PARTicular lifts u spirit? Tranny ok maybe.
