horsepower/torque

i have a 1991 maxima SE, i know that the maxima's changed their HP and Torque around 1993 or so, is there a cheap way to even that??? i think my 1991 has 160 HP compared to the 190HP, and same with torque. i am planning on racing my max. so when i race her, i dont want somehting to happen to my baby, so ill be pushing it hard, and that probably puts alot of pressure and stress on it. plus i dunno if the timing belt has EVER ben changed, well i hope so, they are supposed ot be changed at 60,000 i think. well mine has 125,000. i dont want that dam thing to break and mess up my max's engine. should i take the chance and keep it, or change it???? and where would be a good place to get it done at??? I am certainly not doing it! someplace like pepboys? i live in NJ if that helps.

What if one chooses to replace this belt themselves, has an FSM, some experience, and some tools.. Possible? I hear it isn't an easy job.

you just have to make sure you have everthing all lined up since it is a zero clearance motor. take your time. and you will need a puller and a torque wrench for "specality" tools

The stock engine air intake is quite restricted, check out:

There is more, figure out what.

Get the Y-pipe.

Good ignition boosts pwr:

Then add few citical groundwires...

Real power needs turbo, but u asked cheap...

Next start wondering if u get more pwr, how tranny will like that.

Belt change? ...noo, cool men never do that, they patiently wait the bang.

Belt change is basically straightforward as already told. But job needs time and the proper tools; crank end bolt needs 'some' force, pulley needs smtg to pull out. Swap the seal also.

Log into www.autozone.com

But dont read all that chiltons crap confuzeus text, especially the belt tightening section. Skip into the end, and just do it <as it says>.

After belt sits on, tightened: Belt tightness is verified between cam sprockets. Push down with 20lb force, belt should bend down ½inch. If not, adjust until it is... Rotate engine manuallly few revs and recheck.

cheapest way to make horsepower for a 3rd gen is to get a ve 5spd ur vg is real slow and puting money into one to go fast is pretty much useless especially if its auto you could go turbo but to keep the cost from going through the roof you have to do it yourself and if you cant change a timeing belt you wont be able to turbo ur vg
dont get me wrong vgs are great motors last forever and have minimal maintenace but lack any performance value
imo sell ur car and get urself a ve 5spd

Thanks, so the proper info should be in the original FSM, right?
