parts counter at dealership a little dumb, need some help.
so i was driving my max to work on friday, and the car dies in the middle of traffic, so i have to wrangle up some buddies and a trailer to get it to my mechanic's shop. after having a friend bring over a diagnostic machine, we quickly realized that the power transistor that fires off the coil was toast. i call up the dealer parts desk to order a new transistor and coil pack. long story short, he gave me the wrong coil. since younker nissan doesn't have a clue, does anyone know the part number for a coil/transistor for an 89 vg motor? thanks, matt

right, but i've already purchased the coil from the dealer, now i have to go return it for the correct part. i'm hoping to get it back on the road on monday, i don't really have time to wait on shipping.

Being a weekend (and a holiday at that) I doubt you will be able to get the part before Monday, unless a dealership up there is open and has the part in stock (not likely on both parts). They should be able to get the part on Monday, though.
They might have it at NAPA or another parts store. You might want to call around and see if one is open today. If NAPA has it, you could just get your money back from the dealership.
The Bosch part number on the coil should be: F3000-61989
The transistor part number is: F2045-111602
I got these on a quick google search. NAPA's website isn't working at the moment, but I usually have really good luck with them.
Matt is right about the used parts, too. However, it might be tough to find a junkyard open today.

for real. i know nothing is happenin today, but i was hoping i could stroll up to the dealer parts desk on monday morning and tell him, "hey dude, you gave me the wrong part. i need this part number....." but if i could run to napa and get one, i would much rather do that than pay the $160 to the dealer. thanks for your help chris. i'll check it out.

You can take it back and get your money back from the stealership.

I got the NAPA site to work and they have Echlin and Beck Arnley coils. Part number listed on their site is: ECHIC114 for the Echlin and BA 1788151 for the Beck Arnley.
Here is the only transistor they have listed: BA 1800268 it is also a Beck Arnley.
NAPA should have less problem getting you the right part than the idiots at the stealership.

so the guy at the dealership told me that the coil and transistor had to be replaced at the same time, so nissan sells them together as a kit. i'm looking at napa's website and, they don't sell a 'kit' with both pieces. do you think i should replace both, or should i ignore this guy and just get a transistor? as far as i know the coil could still be ok.....

so i went and ordered the transistor from napa, they had the coil in stock. price came out to $6 cheaper than the dealership. i hope they take this other coil kit back, they usually b*tch about electrical returns. thanks for the help dudes.
