Noisy Timing Belt-VG Engine
Does anyone have a timing belt that sounds a little like a Pete Jackson Gear Drive at low RPM's?
I just turned 200k and changed my timing belt (fourth) and this one is louder than the one I took out. The first time I changed my timing belt (at 77k) it was loud like my new one, so I dove back in and rechecked everything again. It remained loud until 139k, when it was changed again.
I have a Goodyear timing belt with a new water pump and tensioner, but the noise seems to be coming from the Cam sprockets. Belt deflection is at .5 inches.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks.......

Did u change squared teeth belt to squared sprockets? Round belt teeth on squared sprocket make some noise.
U can diffrentiate some cars on belt noise; my max has been quiet since Gates5146 41133x1 (squared).

I thought it could be the belt rubbing on the timing covers, but that's not it either........
I guess I'll live with it for another 60k.....

one way of quieting down loud belts (usually accessory belts) is to put comet on them, i dont know why or how it works, but the mechanic at the service station i used to work at did this all the time, and it worked

noise?
I have a 93, with the v-6 3000 engine. It has 48K miles. It has started making a growling, brg type nosie. It seems to be coming from the dist. Is this the timing belt and or tensioner causing this noise. It only does it at lower rpms.
Also, how often is the timing belt supposed to be changed on these engines?
And how difficult is this to perform.....thanks for the help....

Tightening directions are confuzeus: read only the end, ½inch bend between sprockest with 20lb down force.
