When I looked into a long time ago, I was told that it lasts for the life of the car. However, I am sure many members here have replaced theirs.

what danny is trying to say is that the transmission has to be disassembled in order to change that filter.
it's a VG thing, I don't understand

so theres no point in trying to replace it , because you would have to take off the transmission off the car and take it apart?? its not as easy as like droping the pan like on some transmissions right?

Thats right. The filter in the SE RE4F04A doesn't have to be replaced either, but it is accesible. The filter is a STRAINER, so it does not get plugged like a coton/paper element, the maxima also uses magnets in the tranny pan.

edit: So this is also a reason why changing the tranny fluid on a regular schedule is important b/c you will be getting rid of a lot of the junk thats floating around in there, that will potentially bake on and build up (unless you have added another tranny cooler).
