91 gxe factory amp.. non bose
i just installed a pioneer deh-p6700mp h/u and 2 6.5 pioneer speakers in the rear
and 4x6 pioneers up front. my question is i never bypassed the factory amp and im wondering if i will get better sound if i do? i dont plan on adding my own amp cause i just want the stereo to sound ok nothing special. just wondering if its worth it to bypass the amp if i could get a lil better sound thanks...

well I think that you actually have to bypass them indefinitely when you put in an aftermarket head unit with aftermarket speakers, unless you get that converter thing. the reason for the amps is because the factory head unit doesnt have an internal amp (at least thats how it is wit BOSE), while the new Pioneer does. all you have to do is find which color is positive and negative and cut the wires before the amp and just go right to the speakers wit them. I was always told to bypass them with new speakers and head unit.

the stock non-bose has a rear amp, the front 4*6 is driven directly by the deck. i had my deck installed by futureshop (where i bought my deck, came with free install).
the guy had to splice a wire to turn on the rear amp as the deck turns on to get the rear to work.. the amp is located under the rear deck by the rear speakers.
when i put in my 6*9 in the rear i by-passed the stock rear amp and have the rear 6*9 driven directly by the deck with 50W each channel. when i turn up the volume or the bass without starting the car, the deck would drink so much power the lights inside the car would dim as the bass thumps away.
i'm still trying to think up a way to get around this.. but i'm not sure if it's the battery itself not giving enough power, or the circuitry restricting current going to the deck..

I have 6x9's running off the deck, along with a 600w amp and a 12'' sub and I have never had power drainage issues. I have also had it running with the amp and I really don't notice a difference.
