oil problems???

the dipstick is just fine, but when i opened up the oil additive pipe thingy, where you put the oil into your car after an oil change, there was this white gunk in the cap and some was in the pipe, i really dont think this is good at all. could it be a possible water leak???? oil build up???? but is was white, or a cream color, doesnt look good, it only was in that tube, it didnt show in the dipstick, so just buildup???

Uh oh. Take a sample of the oil and get it anaylzed by Blackstone Labs. $18 to get this done.

Could be nothing. But it could be a headgasket leak. How is your coolant level?

Generally that means water in your oil. COULD be just condensation. Have you done a lot of short trips? A longer trip tends to evaporate the water that condenses in the oil sometimes.

if its fine at the dip stick but is only milky at the valve covers then generally its condensation.

I would think (then again I am not thinking straight today) that if it were a head gasket it would be milky in the crank case (where the dip stick goes) as well as under the valve cover.

I get that crap all the time in the winter. It's condensation, and it builds up more when you're running short trips in freezing temps.

if its NOT the head gasket then run an engine flush through it next oil change and that should take out all of that water and you shouldnt have that problem again, at least for a while.
