VE Exhaust Manifold Outlet Size?

Does anyone know (anyone,... anyone) what the inside diameter of the outlet of the exhaust manifolds are on a VE engine? Hoping that someone who installed a Y-pipe or did other work was curious enough to check.

Why do you want to know? I suppose it's about 2" give or take

I have a spare front manifold in the garage. When I get off work today if no one has the info, I will go out there and measure it for you.

I just measured mine and got ~4.5x3 cm as the dimensions right at the flange.

Are you saying that the opening is more oval? The conversion is like 1.18" (almost 1 3/16") by 1.77" (hair over about 1 3/4).

Obviously, I haven't had the pleasure of pulling the exhaust apart (or measuring it) but the wheels in my head are turning.

Could you please? I'm sure Mizeree_X knows how to measure, but good "scientific practice" says that verification is a good idea. If your results are the same... cool. If I could see mine, I wouldn't have to ask.

Yes, the port is oval.

I should have asked if the stock Y-pipe is the same shape and size. Do you know?

The y-pipe is round and a different shape, because the manifolds are 3-1 collectors.

If I understand you correctly, the "hole" in the outlet flange of the manifold where it mates to the y-pipe is oval, and the stock Y's "hole" in the flange is round.

What is/are the measurement(s) then of the Y's opening?

No, the exhaust ports on the head are oval, so the flanges on the manifold that are mated to the head are oval. The flange that connects the manifold (after it goes from 3 to 1) to the y-pipe is round. The measurement I gave you were the inlet ports. I apologize for the confusion.

OK. Let's start over.

I need the diameter of the opening on the *outlet* side of the manifold. Also, please note if the opening is definitely round or oval... if more oval- what are the measurments across the widest and narrowest parts? I assume the stock y-pipe's opening is the same... correct me if I'm wrong.

Accuracy will help me here... decimals of a MM, or 16ths of an inch.

If anyone has a VE manifold lying around, could you check just in case there is some production variation?

Thanks again.

Well if you are making headers or similar, you would probably want to buy the manfolds anyway to verify measurements and to possibly hack the tubes off for the thick flanges.

Each cylinder's exhaust pipe coming out of the each flange's outlet is oval. I don't know the exact size. You need to measure from the side that meets the cylinder head. And from what I remember, they taper in just a tad also. Also I believe there are some pretty large (relatively speaking) tolerances for the flange mounting holes/fitment dimensions as the flange holes are quite a bit bigger than the stud size.

Each one of these oval tubes taper into more of a round tube and join the collector. Then outlet of each manifold's collector is round.

the outlet flange is definitly round and about 2in in diameter (going off my memory)

same thing for the stock y pipe

Yeah.... and that's what I want the measurement of. I'm not interested in the *inlet* side of the manifold.

*NOT* being ugly, but I need a more accurate measurement than "about 2", give or take". If it's exactly 2".... cool. If it's 1 15/16" or 1 7/8" or 2 1/16" or whatever, it will be helpful to know exactly what it is.

Thanks

I thought I would try once more. I would really like to get an accurate, exact measurement of the inside diameter of the manifold outlet where the Y-pipe mounts to it. Some one has a VE manifold or engine around somewhere. Could you please measure for me? Mizeree_X?? Red92MaxSE?? Anyone??

Many TIA.

I know I have a spare set of VE exh manifolds but I won't be able to get to them anytime soon becasue they're in storage. The joys of living in a apartment. Hopefully I can find a vernier caliper to take exact measurements.

Cut the secrecy, what are you trying to figure out? You might find someone probably been there done that.

I'm not trying to be so secret. Yes, I know someone has been there/done that. I am doing my own mental excersize to decide what size pipe would be best for the down pipes of a y-pipe. I know who makes them (Warpspeed, Budget, others) and where to get them, but one size does necessarily not fit all. I might want to do something different... or I might not.

I'd like to know... then maybe I'll go "Oh, OK".
