Wtb - 92 Ve Maf

I'm trying to work out a stall-and-die issue here... thinking its the MAF - anyone have one that is functioning correctly?

jeff - that'd be really nice - since i got the VE i haven't really gotten to see it working right... been pretty disappointing so far. but i see the potential.

i'm driving around and i get this steady hesitation... hmm... like vuh-vuh-vuh-vuh-vuh-vuh-vuh-vuh. slight lurching, rpm jump and drop, jump and drop.
sometimes the engine just runs off quietly and i realize it has stalled out, particularly at a stop - though it happens while driving too. ecu pulled 5,5 code. so i'm going piece by piece and praying i find this ghost.

anybody know a way to test coils? i have 9 and none appear to have cracks,
jeff, i will pm you
thanks
tom

Could be the maf. Try the one off the vg? Clean the red coolant temp sensor? Clean all the grounds? How's the EGR valve? PCV valve clogged? Plugs look okay? If it's consistenty hunting for the idle, it might be the aux air idle contol valve. Clean it out and make sure the little hole in the TB that feeds it is not clogged. Lots of stuff to try before buying a maf

tested 3 coils so far and got a reading of 1.2 exactly on all of them.... ?
be back soon.
t

edit: okay every coil i have tested at 1.2 on the "200" setting of my Ohm meter. Except one coil, which tested at 1.1

although 1.2 is not .8, i'm guessing (because it is so consistant) its a difference in meters, so i'm going to move on and assume it isn't coils.

power transister was tested, all 30-40 directions worked according to specifications with even and consistent reading. meter set at 2000, as reading were between 500 - 800 depending on the direction
...the ohm meter is pretty cool
on to the next task

oh snap! i think i've been running on 5 cylinders!!!
i just took the plugs out, noted that the far bank, driver's side plug was dirty as hell. i put new plugs in, replaced coils and drove it around the block. same old crap.
got back, kept the engine running and started pulling coil plugs. lo and behold - the coil with the dirty plug makes no difference whether its plugged in or not! the idle doesnt drop, race, or change in any way when the coil plug is pulled.
so its not the plug, coil... its that cylinder specific - where should i look to next?
i'm so happy to have finally narrowed it down.
and if it is only running on 5 cyl. ... man cant wait till 6!
yes!

Check to see if that coil's wiring harness is getting the signal voltage. If yes, then I'd suspect a bad injector. I think #5 is the rear though. So changing that one is going to suck. A compression check couldn't hurt either.

Put a copy of this thread here for ref. Alot of you could learn from this guy
