i wish i had a mechanical problem...

...instead of this. the factory alarm on my 92se is messed up. i'll try and make this short; i have had problems before with the alarm, for example it goes off when i unlock the passenger door WITH the key which meant that when my driverside door lock got stuck i had to set it off to get in the car. i pulled the fuse on the horn and took the door panel off, fixed the lock with wd40. truned the key in the driver door and turned off the alarm. a week later i unlocked the driverside door and the alarm went off anyway. since it kills the starter i have had to drive my work van everywhere.
today i took the dash off and unplugged the alarm unit and instead of the engine turning over i got a very audible and rapid clicking sound coming from the area that the alarm is in. i hate electrical problems and i have no idea what to do next

well just to let ya know you can still start your car while the alarm is engaged. All you have to do is pull the elctronic ignition fuse and it will start right up. I do it all the time but to tell the truth I don't know if it damages anything, that is why I put the fuse back very promptly after the car is started. Oh yeah, and if you leave it (electronic ignition fuse) out then you can't use your power windows

i will try it as soon as i get the battery charged. i think i will unplug the alarm once the car is running and i hope that will be the end of it. if anyone steals it they wont get far, the water pump has to be replaced immediately and the tranny is on the way out too
thanks for the help

the factory alarm disarms by the driver side lock AND the trunk. Just some info I remember from my 91SE.

What you can do is get a keyless entry that unlocks the driver side door, or simply open the trunk with your key before you get in your car and it will be disarmed.

i didn't know that the trunk lock disarmed the alarm. thats interesting and as soon as i fix the trunk lock i will try it. seriously. oh this is kind of funny, i replaced the clutch one time and it involved taking all kinds of stuff out of the car, battery included. at the end of the day i put it all, including tools in the trunk and closed it. only then to remember that the trunk lock was broken and the trunk release on the driver's door was electric. way to go...

Ooh clutch replacement? How much should that run me, in labor? I think I'm gonna get a stage 2 clutch so I don't have to worry about killing it too quickly

i'm not sure about labor costs. the only thing i have paid to have fixed was a ball joint. its not that i know alot about cars, i just have big coconuts... i will say this though, it took me about three days to take everything apart and only one to put it back together since i didnt know what i was doing. it would have been cheaper to have someone else do it than for me to miss 4 days of work. but whatever...
