Need advice on aftermarket stereo.
#1
I am looking to replace the Bose system in my 89 SE and want to know what to buy. I am looking to stay with just the deck, speakers and possibly an amp. No subs as this is my wifes car. Please let me know your opinion on what are the best speakers I can buy and what sizes I need to get. I am looking for good sound quality and pretty good bass. Thanks in advance for your help,
Jeff

Jeff,
Here's my $0.02 worth....
Replacing the HU should be straightforward IF you get the right parts first. You'll need an antenna adapter cable if you have the diversity antenna(Antennaworks PN# 40-NI10). Also, the wire harness kit (Metra PN# 70-1763) and stereo mounting kit (Metra PN# 99-7401) will make the installation simple.
If you are looking to replace the speakers, here's a good piece of advice: Bypass, bypass, bypass! You'll want to bypass the amps that are located with each speaker. If you need any info on that, I can give you detailed instructions on that. Speaker sizes are:
Front - 4 x 6"
Rear - 6 x 9"
As for which brand to buy, everyone has their own personal opinion about that, so I'm not going to get into a ****ing match with everyone over what's better. It's really a matter of what sounds good to you, and how MUCH power you intend to put into them.
Except for maybe the amp bypass stuff, everything else is pretty easy and shouldn't give you too much problems. Good luck!
