painting calipers.....

I am going to be painting my brake calipers eventually when I am sure it won't rain for at least 2days in a row. Any reccomendations on brand of paint and type of paint I should use?....I was also thinking about painting the portion on the rotor that is all rusty looking in the center, it never touches moving parts, just looks like crap...
opinions? suggestions?

I used red and i love it, i bought this kit from walmart where its caliper paint, a paint brush, painting tape, and brake cleaner for 15 bucks. The paint you paint on with a brush instead of the spray paint kind. For me this was alot easier because i could paint the brake with the brake still mounted to the car, you can take the two bolts off that hold it on and paint it a little better but i figured no one would really see the back of my brakes. The spray kind works good too but you really have to take your brakes off for that and thats alot of work just to accent your car's looks.

hey jeff, send me some of those calipers and brackets for them so i won't have to worry about any painting

I am going to be completely pulling off all the calipers, and rotors, and putting my car on blocks for a few days....gonna clean them up good...and sand the rotors where they rust at...tape up the rest of it...Now, I just need help picking a color for them
my car is black on white....its pearl white body, with a black stillen kit and tinted windows....SE so it ha black trim and mirrors.

I was either thinking of doing them white, black...or a dark blue.
opinions? maybe even a rice red

I think red would be awesome... but if not red do black, because white would get dirty looking QUICK!. And the dark blue just wouldnt really match.

Red on stock calipers = rice. Do silver, black or dark blue. White will just get really dirty and look like crap.

Yeah I'm a ricer too... I used the spray paint instead of the brush on stuff and left my calipers on (just didnt get the back too well). It looks pretty good with my black car. I painted the parts of the rotor that normally rust, so they wouldnt rust, and after the winter they had rusted... It's probably my fault anyway...

I'm guilty of a little rice myself i had my calipers blue (not really even a dark blue) and just recently i changed the color to a brighter yellow and believe it or not it really adds a nice touch to the car and i get some nice compliments on them, rice or no rice it looks good. I got the kit from a Napa store the can was about $7 and i took off the calipers to do it then you dont have to worry as much about getting it on the rotors.

ok so, I think Im going to do a dark blue. I have silver center caps on my 17" silver rims...but I also have a set of blue center caps they gave me extra.
think I should swap out the center caps and put the blue ones on when I paint the caliper and rusted disc parts blue? or would it be too mucha nd just keep it matching the wheel? thanks for all your opinions

I took a grinder to my calipers and ground the surface smooth, then sprayed them with 4 coats of gloss black. Then I painted the caliper bracket and the rotor hat silver. I'm obviously biased, but I think it looks really sharp. Makes the brakes look new all the time. I have to go back and paint the first inch of the rotor closes to the hat portion silver tho - as the pads don't go down that far and it's starting to rust.
I would agree that red or yellow is too much. Keep it clean and simple.

Well, I brought this up a year or two ago, and it looks like Im the only one to try it.
Autozone sells powdercoated calipers for our car, sadly only in red or yellow. But hey, its powercoated and not painted. Plus its perfectly and completely painted, so you dont have to worry about rust and it comes with new hardware. Its only $99 a pair (plus a core or $60 f and $145 r). Just buy some quality pads and bolt them on. $200 for 4 new powdercoated calipers with new hardware and shims is WELL worth it in my opinion. Yes I plan on upgrading to the 300z brakes, but right now I dont have the money for the rims, etc so my saw blades cover up my ricer red, so only I (and you fellow orgers) have to know!

A few years ago, I pulled all of my calipers off and sandblasted them, painted them and rebuilt them. It took FOREVER and the paint only lasted about a year before it started rusting in a few places. If you could live with red or yellow (they actualy both look really nice IMO) then I would totaly save yourself the hassle and time, and got to autozone!
