My Motor Mounts SUCK!

Okay, so within the last two years, I've gone through 4 motor mounts, and my last one just broke recently.

I'm horrible at jeri-rigging a polyurethane mount, so I'm not likely going to go that route. And solid ones would require some amount of welding onto the current ones we have, with rubber bushings.....

I was wondering how different are the front motor mounts from a 4th Gen DOHC to a 3rd Gen SOHC?

I was looking at this pic for the 4th Gen.... and it really doesn't look too different from the 3rd Gen version....

from
http://www.cattman.com/prod_traction.html
To me, those mounts look really close to the 3rd Gen ones.

Does anyone know if the front motor mounts are interchangable?

Oh yeah.... the reason why my mounts break all the time is probably because I'm a delivery driver.....

If you go solid mopunt on one, you have to go solid mount on all of them or run the risk of wrecking more than just the mounts. Also with solid smounts, EVERY vibration is felt from teh tiniest misfire, to shutting it off.

Man, I have to admit, I've been running Maxpowers poly mounts for a few months now, and over 10,000 miles. Still REAL stiff!

how much are your mounts? I've got a few sets of mounts that are cracking, and I replaced one today.

To Drivin Maxima: I want to get a 4th Gen mount because they make solid ones, they don't make solid ones for the 3rd Gen.

To aminus: Well, the first motor mount was a stock one.... the other 3 that broke were all brand spankin' new. And the last one that I had, which lasted only a month, I filled the gaps with bumper filling before I put it on, to simulate a solid one.... but that didn't work.

To ItsNoMaxima: I'm more worried about my engine than I am about vibration. Especially since I've gone through 4 mounts already in the past two years.

To subs1000w: It's the rubber bushing part that's breaking every single time.

To Maxpwer: The mount plus $40 is a really good deal. It's about how much I spent to make my last one.... since I bought the bumper filler stuff for it too, and used brakeparts cleaner to clean up the rubber bushing first. I'll PM you. However, I only let it harden for about 7 hours.

To Lordrandall: Wow... that's a sweet looking mount.

Dude... The 4th gens are not even close to being like our cars. The only thing compatible is the washer fluid. So fuuuuget that idea.

The mounts the Max power makes DO not, DO NOT use the original bushing. THe bushing is gutted out. And has several poors done with a certain type of poly. THERE ARE differnt types of poly and is mixed with a digital scale. I wouldn't go any other route, I'm very pleased with the pountsd he hooked me up with. And I payed more than double at the time.

And they look much better than that pic of another mount. A little meatier.

Thanks for the info, therealgoon, I think I'll end up buying one currently, and sending him the broken one after I replace it. Because I'm sure the new one is going to break again within a few months. When that one breaks, I'll just swap the broken one with the poly one from Maxpwer. Thanks again.

7 hours is not enough time to let them cure. leave at room temperature for a few days for it to actually cure.

Baking them for 7 hours would make sense.

Do what? You just quoted a post I made to like 6 people?

You want instructions on how to break 4 mounts in 2 years?

Or are ya asking about filling the gaps with bumper filler?

how are you suppose to fill the mounts, if they are in pieces. Like the center part where the bolt goes through is totally apart from the mount...

Tell you what, if you can take measurements of your mounts. Like how big/wide/tall the rubber center is, I can check that vs the mounts on my se-r. If it turns out to be very simular then you can just buy the prothane mounts from a se-r and use them on your car. Of course those are full urethane inserts so you'd have to burn/press the old rubber mounts out.

I doubt their the same. BUT if they are, you save alot ppl some dough and time.

This is for a VG and thefront and back mounts have the same size insert.

Is there a write up on changing the motor mounts around here? I think mine are pretty much shot.
