short shifter

I'm having the clutch replaced i my car and i needed to know if this is the best time to put in a short shifter or does it not matter? Also are cheaper brands known to break or anything. basically I need to know if here is a noticeable difference between one that is $70 as opposed to one that is $150

It doesnt matter if the clutch is being replaced at this point, the shifter only goes in right where the catalytic converter is, no where really near the clutch. I think the way the ball of the shifter feels is the only difference between the models of short throw shifters.

Well the pacesetter ones can be bought on ebay and they are pretty good stuff, and the stillen i do believe too. So its just a matter of which one you get...

Go the the maxima.org homepage, and then go to like tech or one of those links below forums and there is a right up on it.

I'm a new Maxima owner, but a 3 year member of a Ford Probe owner's club. A few of us (not me, though) have the Pacesetter STS and haven't had any problems with it.

The main difference I see with different brands of STS is the length of the 'throw' to shift. For example, my STS made by PRD has a shorter throw than my friend's STS made by Pacesetter.

Careful about cheap shifters, depending on the quality of it (if it's welded together for example, the shift lever has been known to actually break off while driving.)

I don't know about the 3rd gen short throws, but I love my B&M for 4th gen...

Good Post on Short Throw Shifters...

I believe why it's so much better is because it is smoother and better built, and doesn't move the neutral position of the shifter forward like the others do. After installing some STS's (B&M?) I think people say the stick sits farther forward when "at rest". Also I think the Stillen one isn't actually any shorter (physically height-wise), which isn't a bad thing for people with shorter arms, otherwise it'd be more of a reach.
...just a sample of a good thread on short throw shifters.
