Smoking Car..Oil Problem?
Hey guys, i had a quick question..
I'm not a registered member so i cant run a search through all the threads. so please don't yell if this is a frequent question, i didn't see it on the stickies.
My car is smoking. 91 GXE. i checked under the hood and it's comin from the back looks like under the oil resevoir. is this a common problem? is it somethin i can do here at the house or should i take it somewhere and have someone else do it for me? it smokes when the engines heated up, and there's oil under the engine on the black "floor" things. not much, but enough for me to be able to notice it. i can see smoke rise up from under my hood when i'm stopped or parked after drivin a few minutes. thanks guys.

the oil falls onto the plastic gaurds? that sounds like the front-end...
you can usually trace the leak if you wipe it clean. since it smokes when its heated up the burning definitely on the outside of the exhaust piping. valve gasket sounds like a good guess. thats not too bad on a GXE, but you'll have to replace the manifold gasket too... either way - you should do something about it sooner than later. i know there was a recall on the Honda CRV because it leaked oil onto the exhaust and the whole thing was liable to go up in flames!
i saw a new RX330 totally on fire on 95 just outside manhattan, woa! even the paint was on fire. pretty scary.

Have the same problem, except no smoke. Oil would leak slowly (I think it is the valve gasket but not really sure) and when it is too hot or engine's been running for a while, there is a smell of burnt oil. I did wash the engine once and the problem went away for a while.

I had the same problem, oil on the exhaust causing smoke from under the car. Good advice to take a phillips screwdriver and tighten all the screws on the rocker panel covers. I was surprised how loose they were. I could turn them with 2 fingers. all of them were loose. I think as time passes the gaskets get compressed and leaves a gap. tightening the screws stopped the leaks and i have better engine compression. give it a try first before anything else, only takes a few minutes, what do you have to loose. I cleaned the engine and drove it for a week and no leaks or smoke.
