Need help buying a car

Wow, been such a long time since I didn't post here...glad school ended. Now I'm starting to work and I'm planning on buying a used car but don't know what to buy. I never drove manual but that's what I wanna learn so I'm looking for a man trans. Since this is the 3rd gen thread, I guess you guys would know more about 3rd gen maxes. I have a few question I'd like to ask you if you don't mind:

1- How much should I expect paying for a 92-94 (I live in Canada ) ?
2- What gas mileage can it do?
3- What model are the most worth it?
4- Are there anything I should look at if I find one?

5- Oh yeah, and what other car would you suggest me? I'm looking for no more than 2-3K, it's kinda like a temporary car but I want it to last at least 1 year.

Sry for all the questionning

IMO:

1. I would guess about $2000-2500 US for good shape.
2. Avg. 23 mpg for VE-SE depending on tune, weight of foot, etc.
3. 92-94 5spd SE
4. VTCs and usual maintenance/repair on any used vehicle.
5. Buy a Maxima. If you can't find one, buy a stupid Honda. The resale value will not have changed much when you sell it in a year and it is fairly dependable.

The thing I'm scared about is the gas mileage. I don't want to have to pay $40 a week like I do now with my 95...what other good choice do I have?

Buy a bike. Or get that stupid Honda or like car, ie, Sentra, 200SX, Corolla, Tercel, Geo, Protege, etc. Can't do anything to change gas prices. I look up pump prices in Europe once a week, and it makes me feel tons better. That will make $40 seem like nothing! Good luck with your search.

if its all hyway driving you might get closer to 30mpg with a perfectly running max but i averaged 24-25mpg with my VE 5spd mixed city hyway

you could also look for a V6 5spd camry (VERY RARE) but a close competitor of the max with 182hp and obviously very reliable toyota

lol. Wait until your nationalsocialism creeps to unsere/our level. I never look US pump prices to keep sane still u can see how it affects...

- Point 2. Sorry, if asking this, wrong car model. Yes 30mpg is possible if car is in excellent condition (and Knock Sensor is not knocked out.)

- Point 3. I like the handling of 3gen, independent suspension.

- Point 4. Check out rust condition; rear wheel wells, under fuel filler tube, trunk side panels off, flashlight checkup. ...Papers...

- Point 5. Go Stanza or... I would go after for low miles, japanese if mpg and low service was criteria. And would miss the excellent driveability of max...

I think sticking to two or three basics is the best for the primary phone conversation. 'Condition of drivetrain and chassis? Condition of body and paint? Why are you selling?'
Then grille him/her when you go to look at the car. Ask very specific questions. This is an investment. Maybe not money as much as time and attention, but don't race through it.

how long has he owned the car?
does he have a clear title to the car?
does he have any maintenance records?
what work does it need? (very few people sell a car that doesn't need some sort of work)

plus all the previously mentioned questions
