I was getting off the freeway this morning, driving a bit aggressively. As I was circling around the off ramp, the curve got a little tighter so I had turn the wheel a little bit more (nothing major) and my back end kicked out quite a bit. I ended up doing a nice 5 foot (approx) drift.

It suprised me at first since I wasn't expecting it, but being a decent driver I was able to keep it under control.

So anyway, is it fairly easy to break the back tires loose in these cars? I'm 100% stock and my tires have decent tread left on em.

 

did you happen to lift off the throttle when you noticed the big turn coming up?

If so, it's lift off oversteer. Just about every car will do that.

 

i had a 93 escort and was doing 80 or 90 on the freeway and the same thing happened to me around a curve due to the loose and faulty steering the car had. anyway, i ended up sliding sideways on the freeway from 80 or 90 mph till the car stopped. it was pretty scary, i slid sideways for a good 100 feet maybe more. luckilly the only cars around were behind me at a safe distance. gave them a good show i guess

 

Yeah I got off the throttle to slow down a bit. I've been on that same exit ramp tons of times in my 94 PGT, and never had that problem.

 

when you do that it transfers weight from the rear wheels to the front making it easier for the rears to loose grip. viola oversteer

 

i have never had trouble with oversteer on my maxima... i always get understeer badly before my rear end has ever kicked out.

 

On a stock car it is pretty hard to get oversteer. How is your alignment? Are your rear tires the same as your fronts, not worn or harder in compound in any way?

 

MY 1991 was oversteering like hell . I already lost control in a curve and ended in the other lane , with a 180 ° . The winter was also a pain in the *** . But my front shocks where screwd up bad on my 91 , while my rear ones where stiff enough . Curiously , my 1994 never oversteered , even in the worst condition , even on winter tires on tarmac . But shes so cool , i understand that .
