Is this the dreded window reg????

Ok so after slamming the drivers side door last night ( don't ask ) the window won't do anything. So I fogured it's the dreded window reg. Well today I get the door panel off and see that the cable that lifts the window is off it's plastic guide, pulley thing. I've tried to put the cable back on track and now it seems that the cable on the reg is bunched up, or twisted or something, cant really tell, it just makes noise and moves like an inch. So tell me if I'm wrong or right, am I going to be replacing a window regulator next weekend??

Thanks everyone!

Looks like you're right unless you can find a way to rebuild it. Little patience, some know-how, and spare parts. That won't guarantee the worn cable won't bind again, but it's up to you. Me personally? I would replace it.

Depends on the weekend:
- snow heights
- interest rates
- wire flakes

Might be able to rescue it, really depends on wire condition. I have changed the wire once; with u low prices not worth it. Hmm. This is the way how I learn to close doors...

To really repair it properly it should come out. If you're going to go that far, put in a new one. It really seems to be a no-brainer unless you are one of these totally broke kids.

Sounds like my pass side window. I replaced the regulator today. It's a fairly easy swap.

Yep, sounds like the regulator to me! And i dont know for sure, but I heard its a pain in the *** tryna fix them (if its even possible) so youd probably be better off buyin a new one for $30 and spending the 10-15 minutes it takes to replace it on your own. If you need a new motor as well, your probably looking at $40-$50 as opposed to $30

It definitely is the regulator. I had the same problem with my passenger side window. The wire jumped its track. I tried to push it back in but the wire kept bunching up. Had to replace the regulator. It cost me $70 for the regulator, but that was a while back and it was a dealership. I think prices might have come down since then. Luckily it seems that your motor is fine. You can get instructions to replace the regulator at www.4dsc.com, but dont think you'll need them.

Craig has a write up on his site in the stickies.

The first time, it took me a while, but the second one I replaced went quickly. It is a pretty easy job. Just put in a new regulator and be done with it. Don't bother trying to fix it because those plastic pulleys will just break and you will be mad you spent all of the time trying.

Oh, and I wouldn't call a window regulator "dreaded." It's a cheap, easy repair that is just a minor inconvenience while you wait for the new one.

VTC replacement or transmission replacement would be "dreaded."
