Dude, this isn't Walmart where all car problems are fixed for free. This relates to a specific rust defect in an area where the seatbelt bolts to the frame. In an accident, the seatbelf would certainly fail resulting in injury to the passenger in the vehicle.

Final Update:
It's over. Finally. They bought the car for $1550. First they said the car wasn't worth anything, but they would give us $800. A couple days and a call to Larry, and yesterday they called back with the 1550 number, which is what I expected. Now I need to find a new car. Sadly no VEs in the area.

edit: I forgot, Larry transfered to a different department at NHTSA, I'm not sure yet if he is still the guy handling this recall. I'll try to find out.

I talked to him today about handling mine and said he was the one to do it, so I assume that he's still running the recall information.

I have an 89se 5-spd 220,000 miles but runs good. I took some pics of the rust damage and Larry says its the worst he has seen so far. I am bringing in the car to nissan on the 10th. Its definately a level 5. We will see what nissan says

Hmm... I wonder if mine is that bad... I'll have to rip out some carpet and take a look.

Getting 2K for my max would be pretty sweet

Damn, thats crazy..I also know this is an old thread but I'm glad I read it just in case...damn those dealerships;all they want is money, so do I. I hope my car isnt all rusted out like that..I really havent noticed anything like that in my trunk, if there is I will probably go ahead with these procedures you guys took. Does it matter if you're not like 1 or 2nd owner? According to carfax I'm the 3rd owner so just in case I'd like to know

well today i went to the dealership....they ram my vin # and said it was too old and wasnt in the system.. so i called headquarters and they gave me a bunch of BS....they said that this recall only affected certain vin #'s... so i called larry long, he said that he remembers all of these problems and will add me to the list and try to help me out... my rust isnt very bad at all, but my filler neck is leaking......so this would still be under this recall right? ohh and headquarters said that this isnt a recall, it is a campaign.....WTF does that mean? larry told me to take pics and send them to him will all my info so he can get this straightened out.. seemed like a good guy and very helpful.. tomorrow i will finally go out and take pics. lets add another excuse to the list of excuses saying that this "campaign" doesnt affect all vin numbers and it is in a salt state

edit: just got off the phone with another person and they said they have to de-archive the vin # and i should call back monday to see if the recall was done.. so hopefully all goes well

make sure you drop larrys name in when you call headquarters, if it doesnt make them a little nervous, then tell them u know for a fact that its a recall and that you are not one to play games with. dont be a dik but be stand by your word....werd.

Is this recall valid up in Canada? I have a hell of a lot of rust in the back wheel well/trunk area drivers and passenger side. I don't know if this would qualify me but the car is basically falling to pieces back there. I'm not the original owner though.. Would I qualify ??

Anyone in the DC, VA, MD area have done this on there car & any info. I will definitely check on mine today. I have just wish I found this before I have my mechanic fix a lot of things like gas leak, steering column, etc.. I have spend a good $1700.00 (change) for all of this last week. Do you guys think they (Nissan) refund if its connected with this problem?.
