tranny swap from AT to 5spd

Hey guys any input is appreciated. I currently own a 1994 gxe and seeing how they only come in ATs is it possible to do a tranny swap to a 5spd? if so what kind of work needs to be done and what parts would be replaced?

Well you would have to replace the transmission, and get all of the parts up to the shifter. So first you want to find a parts car with a 5 speed, or a junkyard that has a manual maxima.

piece of cake and it was my first time. ur better off doin' this conversion and save money in the long run or spend over $1500 for an auto tranny rebuild that will last u another 6-12 months. or have fun and alot of patience and try not to pull ur hair so much lookin' for a VE 5-speed in good condition though it is worth buyin' .

yea? I'll keep that in mind. I'm still deciding on whether or not I should rebuild this 91se I found or if I should convert my gxe. thanks to ups and the $11 an hour pay I will soon have enough for a completely new engine and tranny, so I guess I'll have to decide sometime. I dont think hell get any buyers unless their stupid because for like 2 years he was pushing a rebuilt non reinforced engine with 75shot nos. thanks for the help guys, it should only be a few weeks before I'll have a report on the progress of either car.

Would the shift linkage from a vg 5spd work on a ve 5spd. And everything else except for the axles and hubs

will do....and to Daves question I wouldn't know for sure but my guess is that the VG shift linkage wouldnt work because the VE is a stronger engine....unless they use the same part, I would know though hence this thread i started.

i think its the same linkage for both VG and VE since u can't bolt on a VE tranny to the VG motor.

u know what i didn't even notice i put "can't" instead of "can" in my earlier post. i meant "can". i already know u can bolt a VE tranny to a VG motor cuz alot of guys have done already. so of course the shift linkage will work. sorry for the mistake joe94gxe and thanks for correctin' me twinkle
