3rd gen mirrors

ive noticed that there are 2 kinds of mirrors available for 3rd gens. There is one that is flat and sort of compact and then there is the one that iz longer and a little thicker. I know the longer ones are on the 93 and 94 max. Which one would go on a 91?? Thanks in advance.

mirrors are identical from 91 up, and i would call them sportier than the 89 and 90 model mirror. of course the GXE is body color while the SE is flat black mirrors. you are talking about side mirrors right...

a bit confused.. let me get this straight, 91 and up were all the same shape? and only the 91+GXE mirrors matched the body?

because i have a green 93 GXE mirror on one side, and a black 94 SE mirror on the other side and they are shaped completely different.

89 and 90 they were "boxy" while in 91 and up they went to a sportier mirror. you probably dont have a 93 mirror if it looks totally different.

i would think it is from the 93 GXE, since it came as the same exact color as the car(factory color) and the one from the 94 SE looks black and more boxy but sporty as well. the body colored 93 is more rounder

the mirror i ripped off from the other car at the junkyard had a blown VE starin me right in the face, begging me to take it home with me

thats why im thinkin the SE's had that black sporty/boxy lookin one

edit: its definatly not like yours. urs look like my round GXE mirror

here i got some pics

the mirror i supposedly took off a VE

my stock body colored 93 GXE (heated)

that so called VE one, is from an 89-90 se. i know because i needed a new mirror and i bought a cheap one from a 90 maxima and it didnt match my 91, then i found out from a previous thread that 91-94 are same, etc.

so all 91-94 are the same shape regardless of SE or GXE?

damn, so the ones I got from the VE were swapped what a bummer/rip off. to tell u the truth, i like the 89-90 much better. looks more sharper, sporty, and compact compared to the later ones that look more round and uninspired IMO. if i get a chance, i will definatly swap out my heated one, to match the passenger side 89-90 mirror

Yes. The mirrors on my 91 SE are the same shape and size as those on my 92 SE.

Speaking of mirrors, I recently purchased fold in mirrors from a R32 Skyline with the dash control switch. They are silver- same as my '89 GXE. I wonder, has anyone else installed these on there Max? Also, on the topic of heated mirrors, with the switch it seems that there is one button for the heating. Does it control both mirrors or is it just for the driver's side? I wonder if I could add the heating to my R32 mirrors. Hmmm....

I did the skyline swap. It took me about a day to figure out all the wiring and you have to use the maxima bases and the skyline mirrors. It was a while ago when I did it but if youhave any questions Ill try to help.

That's great! Thanks. I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but sometime this summer should be good. What do you mean by the bases? Do you mean the arms that attach the mirrors to the door of the car? I have the 1989 GXE by the way.

Also, do you have pics of the mirrors on your car?

Thanks,
-Mrkanda

Ive never looked at the gxe but some trial and error might work. If you havent done any mods like this before I wouldnt recommend it.
