Cold Air Intake: to be or not to be??

Would like to hear from those that have a CAI installed on their VE30DE - is there a noticeable performance improvement? If so, which brand do you recommend?? I notice you can get cheapos on ebay for $30...

Mike

I made my own for around like 50 dollars including a filter. I used 3" PVC pipe and i stole an idea from Jeff92se and routed it under my headlight... I could tell the car was stronger from like 3500-5000 RPMs, and the sound was increased.

I found that the sound was incredible after getting my one from e-bay, however I really didn't notice a performance difference.I also never did trust the filter that came with it tho and bought another one. Now I keep the one that came with the CAI as my spare when I'm cleaning my K&N.

Why not? Mine is the same level as the bumper. Almost as high as the hot cone height.

Get an Ebay one. They are cheap, and fairly good quality. Only thing is I had to cut a little off of one of the pipes to make it fit right.

made my own using a mandrel bend i got from internetautomart, sound increase was really nice, as far as performance i would say no really big gains but for like 30 bucks(not including filter) its a pretty good buy. if you don't want to deal with making your own i say get an ebay one they all serve the same purpose. but like it was already stated get a k&n filter if you go the ebay route.

Hi, would it be thread hijacking to ask about VG CAI's and/or Stillen Filters for VG's here? If so, I'll just start another thread. Thanks.

Well, I have a eBay POP charger for my '89 GXE. It works OK, but I would prefer to get a real CAI. I know that WSP and PlaceRacing both make one, but cost is an issue for me. I just got a Stillen Conical filter. I think it is for the VE, but I'm going to try to make it work. Please let me know what the best way to go is for my VG. Thanks.

well if cost is an issue, there are a couple of alternatives.

You could try buying one off another member. There's usually a couple of listings in the classifieds.

Another, is using PVC pipe. not the prettiest, but you can always paint it. I actually found the stock mid pipe, with a cone filter on the MAF worked the best for a HAI.
