Black Emerald??

I've always thought the dark green 3rd gen was black emerald. My father in law who owned a new 85 max and a new 95 max said that black emerald came out in 95. Remembering his 95 it was so dark green that it was almost black. What is our dark green called?

Touch up - the dealership. You take your car in or call in with the paint code. Mine I believe is black emerald. I bought a touch up pensil back in 2002 by the code and it was a perfect match. I still have it and it can be reused even after so many years. Go with the dealer stuff if you can afford like $6-7 price. If you need much more than they can sell you a spray can.

Are you SURE yours is black emerald? Did you give them a number and they give you the paint? Does anyone have the original sticker or anything that actually says "black emerald" ?

change 94 to 92 and BAM!

(they only have 92 and 94 though) - go to maxima.org, then shop talk, then reading room

Those are the same color charts and options lists from the dealer brochures

Now I'm not sure. I looked at the 92 stuff and black emerald is not there. It is there in 94. My car that I want to know about is a 93. The information is not available for that year. I just want to see it for sure. It is funny too that Aztec Red was available in 92 and not 94. I really want to see a chart for 93.

My paint code is DJ2. That's what the dealer wanted and they found it out by the VIN number. Then I tried the same with my Accord and had a rude awaikening, realizing that Honda VIN cannot help to find out the factory paint colour.

I think that definitively answers whether my 93 is Black Emerald or not as the code for it is DJ2 in the 94 chart just like yours. Thanks Tarzan, that is not the first time you have helped me. Thanks CraigB for the information links.

Hang on there: what's your paint code? It's on the driver door pillar or determined by calling up the dealer.

I can't look at my 93 right now to see what it actually says but if yours is a 93 and has the emerald green paint code like the 94 chart, then mine must be the same. My 92 Aztec Red has the paint code AG2 posted on the firewall, not on the pillar.

The 93's dark green was called Emerald Green, and changed in 94 to Black Emerald?

Don't bother with honda t-up. It's almost all clear...not even worth the effort. Get a body shop or other automotive paint place to mix up some paint for you.

DJ2 Rocks!!!

So Emerald Green wasn't even an option for the 3rd gens?

I don't think so. It would be nice to see the chart for 93, but they didn't change names of other paint colors.

man I dont visit the board for a while and people forget that you can go to paintscratch.com and get paint codes lol. Actually I didnt read the entire thread so it may have been mentioned.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that a color may be called 5 different things from paint manufacturer to paint manufacturer.

Just because Nissan calls it one thing doesnt mean Duplicolor, PPG, DuPont or other manufacturers call it the same thing. Its really kind of weird.

DJ2 is offered in 93. Its a really dark green. It should be the same color as the 4th gens as well (looks the same on paintscratch) because companies usually change the paint code if they change the color even if its a slight change and on different years. You shouldnt have the same code with different colors even with different years.

Nissan calls it black emerald but like I said the manufacturers will call it something else...but regardless it was an optional color on a lot of 3rd gens (not sure all the years) and was out before 95.

He is correct. Black emerald was first released in 95. The 93/94 green is a lighter shade than the 4th gens. Call your local Nissan dealership for the proper match.
