Alignment or Balancing

Hey guys. Quick question. My steering wheel starts to vibrate noticeably at around 75 mph. I thought I needed an alignment but read somewhere that this is due to tires needing balancing. The car does pull a little to the left (thus I assumed alignment) and had a mechanic tell me that one of my tires was wearing out unevenly. So, which one is it, wheel alignment or tire balancing? Thanks.

From what you describe, you need both an alignment and wheel balancing.

True. Alignment is also DIY job, for balancing u need some equipment.

Thanks guys. Might as well get both the alignment and balancing done. Hope it's not too expensive. Am on a very tight budget right now.

I am by no means knowledgeable when it comes to cars, but I can tell you from experience this:

My boyfriend owned a 1995 chevy beretta (wwaaayy diff car, yes i know BUT) the steering wheel began to vibrate somewhat violently at 55mph plus - tires were pretty new so he didnt need the alignment and wheel balancing (just had that done when he bought 2 new front tires)....turns out a huge piece of his tire was torn off and he never noticed because by chance that spot always happened to be on the ground or somewhere out of sight....until one day it happened to be sitting on top and he saw it (Thank God he found out that way and not by the entire tire blowing out on him)

Just thought I'd drop my half a cent to check all of your tires (duh) just in the case that the alignment and balancing is not your problem. (althought it prob is)

Wow first time I heard anything like that, Glad he found it safely.

I think sears might be the cheapest place I found @59.99 or something like that. I did mine yesterday after changing/upgrading my struts and springs.
