fixed keyless entry. pictures

well, after visiting a junkyard this weekend, i found a keyless entry box in a junker with no dash. very easy to remove, twisted box back and forth until the bracket snapped off! my leatherman tool wouldnt budge the screws. well, i brought it home and unplugged my old one, leaving it screwed into place. i plugged the new box in and reached out to the keypad.... beep beep beep! it was working, well on the passenger side...
go around to the drivers side, got 1 beep then no response. back to passenger side no response.. i unplugged the box and plugged back in again,
passenger side worked... after i repeated this for about 10 minutes, i tried plugging the old box back in... i got beeps from the passenger side! pressing a key on the drivers side resulted in one beep then a dead system. now the system worked great for my first 2 years of ownership and over the past year or more, the whole system seemed dead. no beeps or lights when pressed.

so i pulled the door panels and went to town! i removed the driver side pad and inspected it. i found a small hole in the rubber covering the 9 key!

i cut the rubber away from the board, found that water had worked its way in and corroded the whole board. this caused the system to fail due to poor connections, so i sat there and looked at the passenger side.

the thought came to switch the passenger side over so i could use the keyless entry until i could pick up a new keypad from the junk yard...

well, the RH pad is backwards from the LH pad, and the mounting tabs are offset, so i broke out the dremel and went to town!
i got it almost mounted flush after many adjustments.
this is a temp fix until this weekend when i will replace both with some better ones from the j/y.

so if anybody has dead keypads, check them for moisture!
a little bit will shut the system down until the bad board is removed.

I have this problem too. I used a high pressure hose (car wash) and my pad stopped working cause it had cracks and water got in. Do you have a writeup for how to do this? Do you just disconnect the connector and put on the other one? I've been wanting to fix my doors and dealers charge +$200. I already know how to take the door panel apart I did to replace my window regulator. Keep us posted.

i will provide a write-up this weekend once i go back into the door panels.
this will give me a chance to take some good pictures of the work needed inside.

its pretty easy, the key pad plugs right in from the other side.
look at my pictures,
you will see the red and black wire that needs to be cut and spliced.
these wires go towards the lock cyl and i chose to cut and splice rather than figure out how to remove them from the lock.

I rarely used the passenger side pad, it looks and works like brand new.

you remember.... just like the first time you used the keypads..

My passenger side works well all season, but my driver's side only works in the summer and not in winter. I have tried to remove one at the wreckers without success. How do I remove the wire connecting to the key fob without screwing it up? It's like a ring that produces a green light, from what I understand.

just cut the 2 wires, one is red and one is black.
leave yourself some length to work with...
you gotta splice those 2 back in.
i didnt think those 2 wires went to the glowing ring around the lock.
i thought they disabled the security system when you unlock with the key.
but that does make sense, i wasnt about to try to dismantle that part, it was just easier to snip and solder back into place.

writeup is comming tommorow, after i get the new pads from the boneyard.
along with better pics.

Can you also check and see where the red and black wire connects? Can you also tell us what the junkyard is charging you for the keypads? I want to get one from my junkyard and would like a reference price. If there are a bunch over there and the price is right maybe you can pick me a pair.
