new tint pics

had my maxima tinted all the way around 38%, excluding the front winshield. formula one tint was used, and it cost me $313 with lifetime warrenty. Overall the installation was great. Question though, since the tint is metalized, can windex or any ammonia based cleaner be used to clean the tint? here are the pics

I got them now. It looks real good. But the price is a I was quoted 200 for 25% with a lifetime warranty. Now I have to get my window regulator fixed before I get them put on.

Edit: my 2,001 post.

the installer told me that i could use any ammonia based cleaner to clean the tint since its metallic. I already cleaned the windows with windex..sighs. I guess if it fades i can take it back to the shop and try to get it redone, since its lifetime warrenty.

Why not? It messes up the tints or something?

I think it will actually take it off, i know when one of my friends was taking his tint off he used a razor and windex... i think its because windex is a glass cleaner and the tint is an adhesive so it will take the adhesive off, i might be wrong on that though.

Thing is, I've used windex to clean my windows many times for past 2 yrs. Don't see no peeling, but I have noticed they are not as dark as when I first installed them. I figured it was just the sun that faded them out.

Yes, using ammonia based window cleaners turns the tint color to a faded purple. Looks sick (not sic).

The price depends on the quality of the film itself though guys. So have you all used Formula 1? Another factor is if there was old tint that needed to be scraped off its a beesh especially on the rear window cuz of the defroster leads, and isnt free (for most ppl)
Another factor is who is slingin the tint. A novice wont be paid as much as a pro so the shop will charge more or less respectively, and of course some people work commission while others take hourly.
Best bet is to shop around and ask others with tint where they got theirs done and if they are happy with the job and see if you like the quality first hand.
Im happy with my deal..... lifetime warranty on work/film (solargaurd), any shade, all windows including windshield if I choose, scraping off old tint
$150.00 .....whenever I have cash I just give it to them and deduct it from my bill.

I used ammonia to take off my old tint fifteen minutes ago, works real good. I think I might try tinting some spare glass I have laying around. Over 300 for tint? You really bent over on that one, oh well.

there was only one other place i could of gone in my area and it cost $248 for solar gaurd film, but they hand cut it, where i went was computer cut. Since its lifetime warrenty, if i wanna go with a darker shade, do i have to pay again or is the warrenty for the replacement of the current one if it fades, cracks, peels...etc? Thanks for the comments guys and for those of you who have tint on your maxima's, it looks awesome also. If you can, can you guys who have tint on your cars get pics of how it looks from the inside?

I live in a small town, so there are only a couple of places to get tint done. They keep their prices high and similar and both quoted me about $250 to do mine. Quite a few people drive the 100 miles to Portland to get it done cheaper, so I think that over $300 is getting screwed.

James got a great deal on his tint. The market for tinting must be very competitive in places like Texas and Florida. Virtually every car I see from down there has tinted windows, even cars that are bone stock.

I have never had a car with aftermarket tinted windows, but I have also read on numerous occasions that you should not use anything with ammonia. If you have any doubt, just look on the label of the product. IIRC, you can use water with just a tiny amount of dish washing liquid in it.

yup...that fade is from the windex. eventually it'll bubble up in weird spots too.

congrats..you just voided your tint warranty (if there was one).

also yes on dyed poly tint it does fade slightly. on metalliac tint it doesn't fade as much if at all.

You can get laser cut tint on ebay, for everything but the windshield for a 3rd gen for less than $60 (shipping included), just have to do it yourself, just got my 2nd order today (I messed up my first try) and am gonna try putting it on with the help of a family friend (who tints windows), hopefully I'll have pics up soon, but $313? when the tint only cost me $60? Guess it all depends how much of a DIYer you are...

I just had mine done as well last week $200. That's in Canadian dollars, so about $160 U.S. First thing the tint shop told me was -- never use Amonia based products on the film -- it will eventually fade it to purple.
I found a natural glass cleaner with no ammonia at the grocery store.

Armour all and other car product companies pput out window cleaner now without ammonia. I wouldn't take the chance even though they told you it was OK to use windex. They might try to stiff you on the warranty if they find out you used the wrong product. It'll be a he said she said argument with much hassle for you. Looks good though. Just had mine done using 3M tint but can't post until I get a new camera.

How about the bronze tint from Crown or a place such as that. Is it trash? I would like to tint it up myself and I consider myself a bit good at things. My Max is at this time my work van so I don't want anyone seeing in there to steal from me. Any input will be welcomed...

Wow, you paid $300+?!? I just got quoted $210 for removing the tint that is already installed, and reinstalling 35% for all windows but the front windshield. Lifetime warranty. You got SCREWED.

i used windex to clean my tint only once, i will never do that again. if the tinted windows needed cleaning again, i use water that has been filtered and a soft cotton towel. so far since i used the windex to clean the windows, i have not noticed any fading what-so-ever.
