tint

So I was just readin' through that last long thread about the window tint. And I was wonderin. How hard is it to diy? I understand it is best to do it where dust and other particles can't blow on to where your placing the new tint. And that there are different quality of tints that can make a difference. But is there anything else that would make this procedure difficult? Or perhaps is it better for a novice to just take it in to a shop and let them deal with it? Above all I guess I would like to know what type of tint is the best.

Thanks.

depending on how flat the glass is, it can be easy, in the max the rear doors are alright to do, the front ones suck, and the back one is horrible, its all about patience, but if you had being frustrated like me, take it to a pro (I'm finishing mine tomorrow with the help of a friend

Practice makes perfect. Its totally possible, i did 20 percent all around it it came out good. The windows need to cleaned and cleaned again and then scrap every inch with a razor. I just used the most expesive tint at AS, it was like 13 bucks for a roll and it was scratch resistant

for the money...bring it to the shop to have it professionally installed.

after about 1 garbage can full of crumpled up tint...you would be saying the same thing....unless you're insane and like to waste money.

Window tinting is not rocket science. It might be wise to start with the cheapest crap you can find, practice till you can get it right, and then move on to the better quality. Looks like a very PITA process, but if they can do it, so can you. It may also be a good thing to watch it done a few times by someone who knows what they're doing.

no one said it was rocket science....but most will not venture out and spend 200 bucks on tint just to practice on. i'm talking the professional quality tint...comes in a 100ft roll. not the BS 10 ft roll from the parts store.

also the practice of dry/wet/heat shrinking..also what tools are needed to get the tint to lay down properly.

there's a right way to do it and a wrong way...which one did you pick?

you WATCHED? seriously...it's much harder than it looks. go out there and pick up 2 rolls of tint. then start tinting on the maxima..(if it's not tinted already). get the tint to lay flat w/o bubbles and w/o any dirt. also it should have almost zero light gaps around the glass. i can bet those 2 rolls will end up in the trash.

if you haven't done it yourself then you really can't comment on it now can u?

No shi* it's hard as hell, but how do you think the people who can do it learned? Hopes and dreams, or natural born talent? Practice makes perfect. Thats all I have to say about that. What would recommend then, if someone expects to learn how to do this?

Sure I can comment on it. Why not? I havn't done it myself, but I have spoken to many experienced tinters on the procedure.

umm maybe hands on training class...or perhaps working with a pro....but going on the internet telling people its easy and they should do it themselves has disaster written all over it.

practice makes perfect? what info are they going to practice from? tell them to heat shrink w/ their sister's hair dryer? even the vets who work on their cars here use a FSM...a guide you can say...info resource. i doubt anyone has a book on how to properly tint in their library collection.

also most of the cheap bastids don't want to spend $100 on learning how to tint. if people have a true interest on learning how to tint then they should attend a class. spend the money on learing on how to do it. then if you enjoy it then take other courses or start working out in the field.

tell me how can you correctly comment on a difficulty of a task w/o experiencing it? i mean it would be purely based on observation...."it looks easy"

ok i'm not going to beat a dead horse...you get the point.

easy as pie...
1.Remove windows and rear windshield from car
2.Tint them while you have the glass out and replace without scratching.
3.???
4.Profit

Through out this whole thread, not once have a I mentioned window tinting being easy. I just recommended what experienced people, who have done it, recommended to me. I did say to use cheap stuff.

Watch, learn, practice. People who are good at it learned this way. Most of the people here who have actually admitted doing it, basically said the same thing.

This I agree with you very much on, and it would be the best thing to do for someone who is really seriose about this. But I was just repeating what was said to me by people who I know CAN do it, and have in front of me. And can do it good. I think thats enough to be able to throw an idea out in a forum. I also think it's a bit more informative then some of the other comments flying around here.

Definatly does not look easy, nobody said it was, but it's definatly not rocket science either. I'll tell ya that much from experience of observation.

nice video...but she never goes into the part on how you get the tint inside the door w/o getting the tint all jamed with dirt.

also how close you need to trim the tint. the way she's doing it usually means a sloppy edge...most tinters use tint on the glass as the edge.
