Rev Limiter

Does the rev limiter in a ve30de 5spd also kick in in first gear or only in 2-5? I'm asking because the car still seems to pull even after 6100 rpm.

That is because the redline is at 6700rpm. Don't recommend going above 6200. IIRC, Matt93SE said that the input shaft bearings on the transmission are only rated to 6200rpm. Going higher = dramatically shortened bearing life.

Isn't the rev limiter and redline two different things?

no, but the rev limiter/redline is different than the end of the powerband.

I thought the rev limiter is a mechanism that Nissan installed in order for people to not burn their engine once they reach higher RPM's.

As for the powerband, in first gear it still pulls after 6200 rpm's.

Of course it does. However, after ~6200 rpms, you have reached the point where you would accelerate faster if you shifted into second. Not mention saving some wear and tear on your engine and transmission bearings.
