Weird sound

For awhile now i have been hearing a weird noise under the front valve cover and was wondering what it is. I have asked serveral Maxima owners but i still have no clue. My dad being a machanic says it is the valves sticking cause of lack of oil... in other word saying oil pump is going out. I dont know what to check first but please help me! I have a 1992 SE auto with roughly around 154xxx miles on it

- Try cleanup; might be just blocked oil channels.
- See stickies for right oilfilter.
- If the reason is VTC, some say grounding that feature takes the noise off. (You'll lose 8hp above 5000rpm, lol).
- If its mech failure, only pile of money will help.

- you have grounded +12V wire... check out the schema and try again.
- video does not hurt...or help... I suppose all what can be done is there. (Also on this forum are mech specialist who have hands on experience with VE head problems, I dont.)
- e-mail address is on my first page http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/748507/1 , typing it here will result in tons of spam. (see LINKS for the manual)
- just had that problem on my opel: small plastic bit had blocked the channel, valves noisy as diesel engine. Where did it come into the head channel? Maybe filter trash? The only way was to pull, explode the engine... luckily I did not have to do that.

If the sound is coming from the crank pulley side of the front valve cover, then it is 99% likely it is the VTCs. They make a loud clacking sound that many who are unfamiliar with these engines diagnose as a lifter tick.

would you be able to hear the vtc if they were both unpluged but im for sure it isnt the vtcs it has a different sound to it and when i rev it up it gets louder and wont go away .... it will do that off and on doesnt matter how hot or how cold it is....

Thanks
