92 VE alternator - 2 entirely diff. models???

i just bought an alternator from another member with the same make and model as me, a 92 VE... but when i got the alternator in the mail... i realized right away that they were completely different. look below, which one do you guys have?
the new one wont fit on the bracket, the plug is located on a different side, the bracket is about 45 degrees around the opposite way, the BATT bolt is a different size and location, the E bolt is in a different loc. as well. basically nothing is the same except that the mounting bolts are the same width...
i just dont get it.
take a look

The one on the left is probably for the vg and they sent you the wrong one.

Okay, well i sold him the alternator... so how did a VG bolt up to my VE then? I took it right off of the VE and then put it into a box...

Apparently you are mistaken. That alternator must have come off your /a VG.

Easiest way to tell which it is, VG has intake manifold running to the front of the car, down in front of the engine, and then snakes around to the intake, where the VE has a smarter intake thats right inline with the intake.(But Im sure thats redundant right?)

yes, i could use a ve alternator. that is what i thought i bought. my car is already ****ed up and i've already spent a ton of money trying to fix it. this is just another can of worms. BUT just for the record - has anyone bolted a VG alternator onto the VE?

Doh I ment maybe you can use the VG altinator. Best thing to do if you have the time is see if you can do it yourself. I can go take a look at my vg parts car if you'd think it would help. He did it maybe you can too.

if the VG and VE alternators are diferent, they must be different for a reason. the VG alternator may not be storong enough for the VE or somethign ,ya never know, but just think. why would ther be one ffor a VG and a different one for a VG???

Yeah i do know the difference between a VG and a VE... and obviously a VG bolts up to a VE somehow, i have no idea how... i bought the car used and never replaced the alternator while i had it so whatever was done to the car before i bought it is a mystery to me.

the VG alt puts out 90 amps vs the VEs 95 no major difference there.
are the connectors the same though?

not really. the plug matches... the battery bolt is much thinner on the VG though - and i'm not sure about the fit with the belt and bracket.

I'd play around a bit because you need to get your car back on the road

mtnbikeair- did any shims or brackets come off that didnt look factory come off when you changed the alt? Maybe prev owner used something extra to mount it. Thats all I can think off. GL

If my father inlaw was able to bolt up the altenator from his GMC truck last year to my car I'm sure you can use that one. (not sure what he did but it works)
