For BadHonda Injector issues.

Did lots of Elec-troubleshooting and found out the following:
- Injector #2 is always grouned. Also learned that Maxima ECU actually supplies the ground to injectors which are always hot (+ on).

Checked all pins on the ECU they seems fine, connectors fine, harnesses fine, etc... All was fine back to the ECU.

I haven't had a chance to check th ECU I/O yet, but it would seems unlikely that it went bad! although possible!

I wonder if any of you have any trick to follow, this is driving me quite crazy to say the least. I read somewhere that it could be the Oxygen sensor causing all this trouble.

Why would only Injector #2 be grounded always..and how would that trigger a DTC 51 (Injector circuit open).

Thanks

ECU drives injectors directly. The signals are on 50V -level, so there has to be some driver transistor for each. Assuming one driver has blown, changing that transistor would help... Never seen/opened the max ECU, but I know there is a distinct set of six components (triacs, transistors, whatever) and one is possibly dead. If similar components can be found, without knowing anything of ECU, swapping all those six will give good results, 90% chance.

Before opening ECU box for transistor R&R, check the injector resistances, harness that its ok all the way to ECU. Otherwise, check all voltages and then get new ECU.

he needs to check the wire from ecu to injector to see if it's shorting to ground somewhere

Thanks guys.

Actually I think I did all the necessary checks, except the ECU itself.
- All harnesses, connectors, injectors, etc... were fine (resistance test, continuity tests, no cracks, shorts, etc...).

May be I'll open the ECU itself this weekend and see!.

Thx.,

Take pics and upload to www.cardomain.com (free) for us to see... I guess u can follow the board print from injector pins 101→ ... to the driver components.

All fixed..proud owner again.

It took a while.. lots of reading in the FSM (learned a lot in the process), but finally I figured it out and my tranny...injectors...check engine, etc... are back to normal, the car works just fine, except for a bad idle (I'll fix this weekend).

In short, it was the mechanic (who overhauled my engine) who caused this massive headache. He switched two harness (engine compartment) connectors. Using the FSM and identifying the wire colors I was able to realize that...as for the injector problem (DTC# 51) it was the ECU that was bad (which I think was a result of the switched connectors frying the ECU???). Bought a used ECU off ebay ($50 and received it in 3 days..all is fixed now and I might have saved myself a grand or two, based on what the dealership suggested.

Based on my very long and frustrating experience I honestly suggest to people to try things themselves (You can get the FSM off the net or do what I did ..bought a subscription to ALLDATA DIY), however complicated and intimidating it might seem at first..especially with things that are expensive.

Thanks all for the suggestions....till another auto problem
