Various intake Q's....

So Ive got a whole parts car and I started dissassembling intake manifold for cleaning and porting work. Im going to clean/port and put it on the new black maxima for some extra and essentially free power.

Now how much can I port with out over doing it?

And the mini butterflies in the middle of the 2 rows, how does that affect power? Im pretty sure the PCV thats attacted to it and it looks like a fuel line runs to the IM bc it looks pretty wet, and smells of gas. How does dumping gas in the IM help? Are the injectors that bad?

Also it looks like theres a lip in the lower IM, I figured smoothing that out would help some. And I planned on smoothing the screws and plate and round part that holds the butterflies together. Pretty much doing anything and everything to increse airflow

Also what about a Varible intake? I know 4th gens get alot outta them and Im pretty sure Mrgone or some he knows (donno maybe it was matt..) had one.

Also are the VE and VG upper IM swappable? Bc I was thinking the only reason to have the VGs come forward, in front of the engine and then around to the same MAF plancment as the VE is to increse high end TQ with a longer intake runner. And the VE is straight across to promote low TQ. If they are swapable, wonder how a ve would do with a longer intake? HMM much food for thought.

Also Im going to be turboing the car some time kinda soon. If I sell my s10 It will happen pretty soon. If not I may keep max pretty stock and put a rotary in the s10 (think 275HP rotary s10 ) any way what do you PPL think?

VG was built for easy ride, torque. VE is for ppl with flip/flop gas pedal. Its easy to get 200 from VG ...only with intake mods. But u have to balance the 'instrument flow', u cannot get more in than u get out...

Heres one good link to study airflow in general & turbo:

I think a 275 HP V8 s-10 would be better but that is OT.

I see every day: 1500lb+plus lots (=1850?), 7.5s 0-60mph is fact. Conclusion: with A/T theres got to be that 200... (I DO have some intake mods, half shown on my web page. still want to get that exhaust - maybe not, alas the poor tranny, this might already be too much)

Yes, I cannot 'prove any body any thin: Sorry, here's no tracks or dynos, just cows...

1500lbs? whats that supposed to represent

I've seen a few highly modified VE's who aren't even putting down 190whp

there is no way a VG is going to get anywhere close without lots of internal engine work

Matt and Jeff come to mind. Have you ever seen a NA VE put down 190?

...represents error. swap lbs-->kg.

Well, hp is just a guess, based on accel time. Lets say then that hp is 100... How do u make A/T, 3300lb, 7.5s with tHat? Hmmm

0-60: Just did intake to my sons 1.8i ZX wit A/T: time was like 14s, now UNDER 10s. Ol saab BIG round filter = dirt cheap...

There was a write up on the procedures for P&P the manifold. Check the stickies, it might be in there
