Hey i just recently got an 89 max and found this site to be very helpful. i already installed a stereo system and did the whole freakin bose dilema. i found an easy fix to the 1 ohm problem that i heard everyone talking about by wiring them in series to get 2-2.4 ohms but only leaving you with two channels in the car which i only use any way cause i have a four channel amp where two go to inside of the car and the other two are bridged to my sub. Anyways my problem now is that my speedometer every once in a while goes past 125 mph and stays there unless i turn my car off and on. This i am assuming that it is electronical and not an acutal wire to the speedometer. I have read other posts about the same problem but many were unanswered. thanks

Ditto ..

I have the same problem. Other times it reads 0 or is just way out. Have checked the speed sensor (Common failure) and all electrical connections with no joy. Dash is coming out tommorrow to have that checked out. I suspect it is the gauges as you can give the trip meter a flick and the speedo sometimes comes right (but not always!). I'll be posting what I find, so watch this space.

I had a problem with my spedometer also, The needle would just randomly drop to zero when I was driving, Nissan told me that speedometer unit was bad and wanted to replace my whole cluster for $200 and then charge me an extra $60 to recalibrate my odometer, I went to a junkyard and bought the speedometer for $50 and just replaced that, it didn't even effect my odometer.

spedo

If you smack it really hard when it does it and it comes back on, then it is the cluster, if it doesnt it is something else.

Update

Just got the car back from the "Automotive Instrument Specialists". They have taken the dash out completely and can find no definitive fault in the dash. The did however notice that some of the solder joints around the dash micro had been resoldered (dry joints) so they went through the entire dash resoldering all of the joints. Then they heated and flexed and cooled and flex the dash and could not reproduce any faults.

Fingers crossed!
