hey guys. the boot on the drivers side on the steering rack is ripped open and all the grease leaked out. can i just replace that part and if i can how?

its a 1989 maxima

 

yes, you can replace your boots. they're very very easy to do. all you'll need is a lock plier, rubber hammer, new tie rod ES boots from pepboys ($3 for 2), and some multipurpose synthetic greases and of course new boots.

 

so i just take off that part where the boot is?

 

remove the outer tie rod, remoce the boot, put on new boot, put back on outer tie rod, go get car aligned

 

do i have to put any grease inside the boot before installation or just a little around the ball joint?

No grease...Just replace the boot.

The ball joints on these cars cannot be greased. Just replaced.

i wanna know whats the difference between getting one at pep boys and getting one at the dealership? i mean the difference is only like 3 bucks, is there much difference in quality?

now to remove the tie rods. i c there is that nut thats between the inner and outer tie rod. its on the passenger side. do i turn the nut towards the rear or the front of the car. cause its on pretty tight and either way i cant turn it. what do you guys suggest.

I suggest you grow some muscles and look at the way the threads are on tie rod end and then turn it acordingly...

 

damn that nut is so freakin tough. the sh** wont budge

 

I've already told you need a grippy lock plier and a rubber hammer, that thing should've came right off if you hit it in the right direction. don't try to use any wrenches as that will round that nut and you'll be stuck.
