window problem

The other day my fell. I thought that it was off track cause I could hear the window trying to go up but that wasn;t the problem. I took it to the shop and they said that it was the motor part of the regulator. They're going to charge me 120 for 2 windows. Is that fair? Oh yeah, this is with the parts and labor.

That doesn't sound too bad....

I would try to get that part and labor quote in writing though....

Wait, I'm confused. You say that you could hear the window trying to go up. If thats the case, then it cant be your motor. I have had the same problem (and just about every other 3rd gen maxima owner). I can hear the window try to go up but it wont move. Its the regulator not the motor. You can check with Brian(Internetautomart) about the prices, although 120 for 2 windows does sound pretty good (for parts and labor).

I would almost certainly think it is a regulator and not the motor. Very common problem. There is lots of information in the stickies about it.

you can buy brand new regulators for about $60 each shipped and do it yourself. It takes less than an hour each.

Somehow it sounds odd that they would charge so little. My local dealership quoted me $275 parts and labor to replace one regulator.

what are you going to do about it. I went to the shop they only specialize in windows and they haven't gotten the part in yet.

It's a lot easier to replace a window regulator than a door. Like I said, it takes about an hour the first time you do it. Now, I could replace one in probably 30 minutes.

You can order them from Internetautomart on this site or go to ebay. I just checked and they have gone down in price to around $30-$50.

This one even comes with a motor for $52.45 shipped: ebay driver door regulator with motor

Even if you get a door for $50, the odds are that it has the stock regulator and that will go out, too. Plus, you would have to find one the same color -- or paint it. That's a lot of work.
