shaking and high whine

I have a high picth hum when my engine is idle at 700-1000 rpm above and below that the engine sounds fine and everything feels fine. I can also feel some shaking in the steering wheel when i get between 700-1000 rpm. Could this be the timing belt? or a control arm? I have replaced the timing belt before but that was a while ago ( don't remember when but prob around 60000) and I am getting close to 120000 miles. This noise started showing up after I went into a dip too fast I believe and had a real hard thud.

You might have damaged something under your car when you went through the dip.

Jack it up, crawl under it and see if you find some damage.

I looked and thought I saw something out of place but I wasn't sure. I don't spend enough time under there to be sure can anyone give me a pic of the bottom of their vg engine area?

If its rpm related, quite possibly belts touching smtg like mud shields? THere are some pics - but maybe not what u want... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/23

Take the shields off and jack up as suggested... Check that belts are tight; pwr steering bolt (4.) should be tight.

I know this will sound hilarious, but my mom got this problem on her old saab 900 after I made a burn out with it...

the car sounded real strange when engaging clutch, a kind of scraping sound, plus the car was shaking and had a real rough idle. and when disengaging it went back to just whining.

it turned out to be the flywheel bolts. 5 out of 7 of them had broke.

but I hardly belive this is what happened to you, it's more of a funny incident I just had to share
