plug area cleaning

hey all,
I just put in new plugs and found quite a bit of oil and debris on the top of the old ones, any tips on how and especially what to clean that area out with? Use old plugs while cleaning I'd guess, but beyond that I'd really like to avoid doing more harm than good.

Fix your engine. The plugs are not to be cleaned - the rood cause has to be addressed.

I'm assuming you're refering to the plug holes, on the outside of the engine.
I'd just blow it out with compressed air, and then vaccum it out. repeat until cleared of debris.

just vaccum it out, so simple . I really just wanted to avoid getting debris in the holes where the plugs screw-in for fear of creating a problem.
the engine is bueno, just a little dirty back there after a 2,000 mile trip cross country through some nasty weather (and horrific traffic near Chicago).
probably shoulda used a different title for the post to avoid confusion
