Wjy is it that Maxima's transmissions are so hard to find, or so expensive?
Whenever I call a shop and tell them what kind of car it is, the guy acts like I'm asking for his right arm!
I called a Aamco here in Austin and he gave me a quote between $1200-2000. Okay, I said, that's in my range.
The guy said they check the selenoids to make sure that's not the problem. He said if it was, it would only cost a few hundred bucks.
Then I decided to take my car into them and have them look at it. But I found a closer Aamco and had the car towed to them. In one hour, they called me saying it would cost anywhere from $1800-2500!!! I want to know why the estimates were so far apart between 2 shops?
Well, I didn't have that kind of money so I towed it home. The car does still drive, but I didn't want to ruin it.
We asked them about the computer check they say they do. "They don't do those on '89's", they said. So basically, they drove my car a couple of feet and determined I needed a new transmission.
A friend told me that if you take your car to Aamco, their always gonna say you need a new transmission.
So now my car is still sitting in the driveway.
I heard that we can put another type transmission in it. Stanza or something?
Can someone help?? I want my car back!
Thanks!

Well, I have seen maxima transmissions on Ebay. One or two state that the maxima and stanza tranny are the same. But that's about the extent of my research(which is squat basicly) $1200 or so is about right for a rebuild tranny.

$1200 rebuilt?? Tell me where!
A 'used' transmission from a junkyard is going for around $1200.
I always get the $1200-2000 quote for a rebuilt, so I finally asked a guy if I would ever get one for $1200. He said its very rare to end up paying that amt.
For some reason, they say nissan maxima's transmissions are hard to do and hard to find. Believe me, I have been asking around.
After my experience with Aamco, I won't be taking my car there again.
I can't find a transmission on ebay either.
Aaaaggghhh!! There's got to be something out there!

I found one but I have no idea if it's the correct one for your year.

My transmission
So that transmission is for a automatic?
My car has to many weird buttons connected to the transmission. It has a button near the gears shift with the words "power" and "comfort".
I've got to get my car fixed..I've got wasps making a nest inside!!!!
Thanks guys!
