wsp vs. greddy from the cat back

Would the performance be better with the entire WSP exhaust system with Magnaflow Mufflers, or just the front of the exhaust in WSP (Y-pipe) and then from the cat back with the Greddy SP2 system? Also has anyone heard both of these exhausts and know which one sounds better? I would be installing it on my 93 GXE.

Cat-backs are a HUGE waste of money. Unless it is a show car, go with the old 2.5 that your local muffler specialists provide.

Well, the WSP comes with a MagnaFlow muffler. None of the exhaust shops around me can mandrel bend, so that's why I'm either going to go with the Greddy or WSP cat back system. I've heard very good things about the way the Greddy sounds, but I know Magnaflow sounds good too.

arent greddys for the 3rd gen about $550-600?

For that price I would just get that warpspeed deal which is $590 and it comes with:

- 2-1/2" MANDREL BENT ALUMINIZED STEEL Y PIPE WITH 2 BOLT FLANGES
- Y PIPE FEATURES 2-1/2" LINED FLEX SECTION TO ELIMINATE BEES IN THE CAN SOUND
- 2-1/2" HIGH FLOW CATALYTIC CONVERTER (RACE PIPE OPTIONAL)
- 2-1/2" B PIPE WITH RESONATOR, TYPICALLY 14-18" IN LENGTH FOR MAXIMUM SOUND REDUCTION
- 2-1/4" AVAILABLE FOR 1989-1994
- 2-1/2" MAGNAFLOW STAINLESS SINGLE TIP MUFFLER ( LOUDER THAN STOCK )
- MAGNAFLOW TWIN TIP +$20 (louder than stock)
- ALL GASKETS, HANGERS AND BOLTS INCLUDED

(taken from the warpspeed website)

The warpspeed is a better deal, but the GReddy has a fantastic sound that I don't think you will get from a Magnaflow muffler. It is silent at cruising speeds, even with no cat. Once you put the hammer down, it sounds throaty, with no raspy sound at all.

I kind of miss the dual tip look, but I get lots of compliments on how the GReddy looks, and it's not like it's ugly. It still looks very good:

If you don't have a y-pipe, I would probably lean toward the whole package with the y, since that will give you the best gains. If you already have a y-pipe, my vote goes for spending extra on the GReddy.

I'd go with the WSP full exhaust. I don't like cat backs, I figure if you're doing a job, why stop half way? I just went to the local exhaust shop and had mine done though. It was way cheaper to just buy the pipe have it bent and buy the muffler and forget the cat! And I liked it better cause now I have twin tips, one comming out each side of the rear bumper. I have a stillen body kit so I just cut a new hole for the exhaust to exit and with chrome tips it looks really good.

Most shops won't do mandrel bends and don't use stainless steel. My entire exhaust (minus the cat) is mandrel bent stainless steel -- y-pipe and cat-back. Many magazine tech articles have dyno proven the difference (mostly on muscle cars) that crush bent piping restricts airflow.

We are not talking huge differences (especially with the cat-back) but what you have is strictly going to be for sound and looks, not performance.

Like I said in my previous post, the most important part of the exaust on a 3rd gen is the y-pipe.

I understand that crush bends are not as good as mandrel bends, but I really wasn't concerned about it. Mainly because we are dealing with 2.5" pipe, which,I thought, was kinda large for these cars. As this is the same pipes that I have used on my Small Block Chevys. But of course this is before I knew much about these cars, As I've never really done much with imports at all. Personaly I don't think you or your engine would ever notice the difference between crush and mandrel bent 2.5" pipe.

Like I said, it's probably not much difference, but it could be a slight amount. If given the choice, I would opt for the mandrel bent. Small block Chevies probably put out less pressure through the exhuast (unless you really build them up), since they are sending four down one side and four down the other on a dual exhaust. Ours is six down one pipe.

The biggest thing, especially for people on the East Coast/Midwest is going to be stainless steel. My Cattman y-pipe and GReddy are both stainless and both came (used) from the East Coast. They are still in great shape. I had a little bit of surface rust on the y-pipe, but I took it off with a wire wheel and now it looks practically new. The GReddy is spotless, too.

unless you have the SP2...the muffler is stainless and the pipes are mild steel...so they will rust..eventually.

I thought you couldn't get the Greddy anymore. Their site only lists 95 and newer max for SP2.

I was wondering the same thing about Greddy, I didn't see the 3rd gen catback on their site. Just from the cat back, would the Greddy or WSP kit offer better gains? Also, anybody have any experience with the Cattmann Y-Pipe?

Gains owuld more then liekly be equal.... the only difference is sound and look.. if you want twin tip then you have to go wiht magnaflow.

I believe from anythign i have read the greddy is quieter then the magnaflow.I hate loud exhausts so personaly iw oudl go with that.

I am pretty sure everything on mine is stainless except the resonator, as far as I can tell. If it isn't stainless, the steel is 10 times better than any exhaust I have ever seen.

Nothing rusts where I am. My stock exhaust was virtually perfect when I gave it to MrGone. I live in the desert and it Oregon the DOT doesn't put salt on the roads.

Both a waste of money. Just buy the WSP Y-pipe, a new cat, and pay for custom piping from the cat back. Throw on your own muffler. Walla about $500 less than what you'd pay for a cat-back kit and Y-pipe.

Greddy's SP1 exhaust is aluminized (sp) mild steel piping with a full stainless steel muffler

their's SP2 exhaust is full stainless cat back (full mean everything is stainless)

since you don't have that salt issue over there...the exhaust will last much longer than states that use salt on the roads.

crawl under your car...stick a magnet to the pipe (not the muffler or tip) it should stick...that means it's mild steel. (yes i know magnets will stick to other stainless steel metals with actual steel content in them)

btw, you can still purchase the Greddy catback system from the stillen website, but I don't think it is the SP2. Anybody know where you can get the SP2? Also, you can't have the headers AND the Y-Pipe can you?

I have the Warpspeed Y pipe and Cat. For cat back I went Greddy SP(1). (SP isn't all stainless steel, SP2 is) You can still find them if you look hard enough. Sound is awesome! I'm glad I spent the money on it. Pretty quiet until I stomp on it. Then it is a deep growl, still not too loud. Just the sound I was looking for. Total cost for me was about $530 new for all from Y pipe to muffler. Warpspeed has a discount for Maxima.org members and there is a group buy on Greddy catback systems through Maxima.org. I personally got my Greddy off of eBay. Cool thing about this setup is I didn't have to go to a muffler shop to get it finished up like you have to do if you order catback from Warpspeed. Everything bolts together. You might want to consider this cost when you're comparing the two. I've had strangers admire and comment on the looks of the Greddy muffler. It's been nice attention.

Ok, take that 500 that you want to spend on a catback, and get an aluminum flywheel and used y pipe. I would be willing to bet that my $90 muffler job provides the same gains that your $550+ jobs will. Cat-backs are so over-rated guys. You guys spend that $ on those catbacks and I'll buy some injectors and fmic for that.

I don't think it's overrated if you want a certain sound. It is definitely overrated for performance. I couldn't tell a difference in performance with it on, but the sound is

Luckily, I bought mine at a super good deal. I don't honestly know if I would have paid nearly $600 for it.

since we are talking exhaust here, i am still low on money, but i need to pass inspection. i have until monday, that is like 4 days......i already have a y-pipe from warpspeed, if i just got a cat-back from a local muffler shop, instead of warpspeed, is it worth warpepeed with HP gains or not. i can get a cat-back with a nice sounding muffler for $100. warpspeed is like $300 what should i do?? I NEED IT NOW ALSO.

i switched my magnaflow to a 5th gen muffler. i love it. i loved the look of my magnaflow and the sound was great for the times i wanted to romp on it and hear sweetness. lol but the 5th gen muffler coupled with the cai sound is what i like.

mrgone just defends his high dollar purchase of a greddy by saying its the best.

Yeah... he's probably kicking himself in the butt for spending so much money on a piece of metal. That system is half the price of some of the 3rd gens out there.

MrGone and I were both much wiser than that. We waited for someone that needed money to sell off their stuff.

I will just say that with shipping, I paid less than 1/2 of what it would have cost new for my GReddy and it is in excellent condition.

Honestly, I am pretty sure I would not have paid full price for mine. I likely would have bought a quality muffler or found a 2k one, then paid a shop to just do crush bends and a big resonator. After hearing MrGone's in person, I will say that I jumped at the chance to buy a GReddy used.

Why? There isn't room so what does it matter? The gains would all depend on what you used for pipe, mufflers, cats, etc. There's too many variables to give you a definate answer on this

I have the wsp full 2.5" system and I've also heard mrgone's greddy.

If you like loud and cheap go with the wsp. It doesn't sound bad at all. It actually sounds really nice but, it is pretty loud. It also has very little drone. I set off sensitive car alarms sometimes.

If you want it a little louder than stock go with the greddy. I've heard that the build quality isn't that great but personly I don't know. I think the muffler looks a little nicer than the wsp and it's probably easier to install than the wsp.

I've thought about putting a 5th gen muffler on my wsp because I think the magnaflow muffler attracts too much attention (too loud, isn't stock looking). I'm not sure what I like more, somewhat stock sounding exhaust with cai or wsp exhaust with cai.
