I recently installed Altima SE-R pedals (as you can see in the last picture), a viper 791XV remote start (will not start in gear) paging alarm with 2 (F+R) window automation modules and glass break sensor (it's almost unstealable!), installed some audio equipment, and I did a 9004 to 9007 headlight bulb conversion (light output is ALOT better). I took some interior pics but they didn't come out very nice because there was poor lighting. I have ALOT of plans with this car and I'll keep you guys posted.

If you guys didn't already know, I now have two fully modded VE-5's (I built the my other one myself)

I don't mind at all. I 've seen your sig MANY times before but I never knew it was Jeff's (my) car.

Easiest way to prevent theft is to have nothing they wanna steal. Im not saying you shouldn't have nice things on your cars, just keep all the good stuff under wraps. I've not heard of someone's MEVI or supercharger gettin jacked....

What do you want me to do? I run 13" rotors with bbk calipers. I need at least a 17" wheel to clear. So I HAVE to run some type of wheels. Except for the wheels/bbk, it looked as stock as most any other lowered 3-gen. 90% of my mods were on the inside where no one could see.

I agree with Jeff. If you run a BBK, you need bigger wheels. Very few people would have known his wheels were forged 350z track wheels, unless they really knew Nissans well. Obviously, someone actually knew what they were and went through a lot of trouble to get them.

His car looked (still looks, but it's not his) very stock, other than the slight drop and the wheels/brakes.

Mine is pretty much the same way, except I have no BBK and a GReddy exhaust. Everything else looks stock on the outside and inside of mine, except the HU and AE shift ****. Jeff's old car is even more stealth, with a 2k muffler that looks more like it was there from the factory.

it depends on the condition of your locks, I've only seen one 3rd gen where you could start the car then remove the key.

lets think about this for a second

wheels = sought after and from a 350Z. Can be used on a number of cars
mevi = 4th gen maxima specific thing only, and you'd pretty much have to know the car or be a forum member to know if a car had one or not, which I don't even want to think about. Not too easy to sell without attracting attention.
supercharged maxima = even more rare, and not exactly a quick thing to take. Also not too easy to sell without attracting attention.

Face it, put wheels on any car and you increase your chances at becoming a target.

I don't think he was asking if you could remove the key after starting. He wanted to know if what I said was true about many 3rd gen keys working on other 3rd gens and being able to start them.

bgssamson, I bought a 92'SE awhile back, and could open it with the key from my old 93'GXE but couldn't start it. Another case was my friends kid brother was running around with something he called a Nissan master key. He told me it could open any Nissan for certain years. I told him that I didn't doubt that he could open my car, but was almost positive he wouldn't be able to start it. Whadaya know.. The little guy opens and starts my car when I wasn't even around

Conditions of the locks or not, we can open many of our cars.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if yall third gens had a meet, threw all your keys into a bowl, drew them at random, then started each others cars? j/k.

So that's why Nissan added keyless entry to the 4th gens LOL...

BTW, i didn't know that Jeff had modded brakes. Most folks who get rims ripped off just have them on for show, and those 350z track wheels looked fine...

3rd gens had keyless entry as well. Nice thought for the key bowl though

That requires admitting there was a problem in the first place, a task many corporations find challenging.

Imagine the expense of having to reengineer a lock system for potentially hundreds of thousands of cars . And to what end? Theives still will break the recalled locking system, unless Nissan custom-builds each lock per car....

That is the history thing I was talking about. He's the creator of 4DSC.com! And this car had the very first performance Y pipe.

Yes, I know all the good stuff was done by you but Matt sure kept it in really good condition!

Matt, was that speedo pic photoshopped?? Mostly stock maxima doing 6200 in 5th??

Ha. I'm not sure "all" the good stuff was done by Jeff, that car had a y-pipe, intake, suspension, and exhaust on it way back when those mods were leading edge. The coolest was the "dryer vent hose CAI" which was eventually removed thanks to a low curb.

That said, Jeff definitely added the most impressive mods to the car.

I don't know if you are interested, but here's a brief history of the car.

- originally bought in Colorado (federal emissions) and moved to San Luis Obispo, CA around 1995.

- I bought it in 1997 @ 50k miles (still under warantee). Sometime around 1998 SLO Muffler Factory welded up the custom y-pipe for the grand charge of $50. The next week a guy from the Bay Area came down and had SLO Muffler put the first 4th gen y-pipe on his 97. Due to pre-cat removal he ended up driving it from my house to the shop with open headers, sounded pretty good. I had the car all through college with no issues and did all of my mods during that time.

- In 2001 I bought a WRX and kept the Max as a 2nd car, and then bought a ZJ. Having 3 cars in San Francisco is a pain, so in 2003 Jeff flew down and bought the car.

The speedo pic is photoshopped as an April Fool's day joke for the old 3rd gen site. In reality I was only going about 70-80. The racing max photo (see sig) was also an April Fool's day joke.

- Matt

ps. As Jeff mentioned, that Maxima is the one on the front page and in the headers on 4dsc.com.
