flex band

uhh im not sure if i have an exhaust leak or not but the guy at meineke said i should probally get a new Y-pipe now, my flex band is completly ripped exposing whats held inside of it and its making a funny noise :O , how do i know if it's leaking , and how long should it take for me to order a warpspeed Y pipe and have it delivered to NY , also ... is 90 $ a crap price to pay to have it installed?

The flex section can be replaced separately from the entire y pipe....

Warpspeed doesn't get in any hurry to ship parts out so don't expect it any time soon.

Unless you do the work yourself you will be at the mercy of repair shops prices..But if you think its too much to pay then find other shops and see hoy much they want.

meineke wants 130+install for the flex alone and they will do the whole Y pipe for 250 i asked how much the install of a Y was and it's 90 dollars , so if i get the warpspeed pipe , it would be 160 + 90 labor = 250 same he wants for whatever hes giving me .. for the warpspeed

you just stated the reason why I don't sell y-pipes.
it's the same price as buying a WSP one. so y should I sell an inferior product?

warpspeed gives you the most bang for your buck, or the most HP per dollar......why dont you do it yourself?????..come on i did it when i was 16....seriously...all hand tools, no air tools. it will save you the price of labor

Actually getting the bolts off the cat convertor is very difficult. You really need an impact gun to get them off. no welding is required.

there's only 9 bolts holding the y to the vehicle. 3 bolts on each exhaust manifold, two on the cat, and one bracket. obviously the bolts will need extra uumph like impact or penetrating grease. but 90 bucks for install? put it on ramps and do it yourself in 20 mins. it's not harder than it looks.

Bah, you gotta take the plunge sometime and learn to work on your car yourself. It's quite rewarding.

MyBlue did you just replaced the Flex section or the whole Y-Pipe. Is it hard to replace? I think my Flex section is leaking too, don't know how to diagnostic.

i had it replaced at the shop, my i could tell my flex was broken because it was ripped in half , also , if you can get the car up on a jack or a lift or something , when the gas is pressed you can feel exhaust air comming out under the flex because there is a hole in it , the guy had me put my hand under it when he pressed the gas just to feel,

The weirdest thing is that I only hear the noise only when the car is moving. I lifted the car up once and saw there is big black spot on the flex section but don't know if that indicated anything.

the black spot you saw was the point at which it was leaking.

Thanks. I guess I will go for the repair instead of replacing the whole Y-Pipe.

There's is not only more expensive, it's less compatible....they make ONE pipe for all 4 3rd gens (VG auto/manual, VE auto/manual)......I had the cattman pipe, and it was okay on my VG , but it was too low and hit the ground all the time on my VE....

Warpspeed makes 4 different pipes
