Timing Belt Change?

How do you know when its time to change it?

I have a 90 GXE with 82K and I have only had it about a month got a deal $1500 and its very clean. So when I got it I did general maintenance on it plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor button, and fuel filter but now it seems to have some hesitation but has tons of power...any ideas?

thanks

That all depends on your mechanical experience...Since you ask the question, that tells me that you do not have much experience...

Check the repair information in the stickies for more info.

if you have the right tools, a little experience, and plenty of patience, it's a walk in the park. if you're missing one or all of these, your swearing will increase tenfold. a factory service manual is a good investment if you plan to perform any maintenance such as this. small things can be easily overlooked that can cause major problems, so be sure to check your work twice before moving on.

- belt swap, 60k, 5yrs
- "I have a 90 GXE with 82K" ... me too
- "it seems to have some hesitation" ... I had also. All is well after 'some' tuneup: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/1
- for belt change, what ppl say. Also check my Favorite Links. On tightening, concentrate only on how to verify tightness; 20lb push force bends belt under half inch.

I know that I am going with an oem nissan timing belt.

My question is am I safe going with aftermarket tensioner, water pump?

the question is not aftermarket, as it is all aftermarket, it is whether a particular brand is worth a squat

Hey I just bought myself a 93 maxima. nice deal only $550 but needs a timing belt too, for those who have changed it before at a shop, how much does it usually run for?

bryan was planning with you guys,

the timming chain does not need to be replace, because it should last the life time of the engine,

but a timing belt also lasts the lifetime of the engine, cause when it breaks the engine is dead....
