If you go from auto to 5 speed, the control unit is not used,so just leave it alone..

The auto trans is the same in all 3rd gens i think[not sure though]

There is no filter in a manual trans to change.....

Good call on the swap...

just wondering, what year did the 5-sp come out of? know how many miles are on it vs. the auto you had?

They have also been deemed slightly more reliable.

The VE got a different (stronger) auto tranny than the VG did.
the VG had an RE4F02A (R=? E = Electric 4= speeds F = FWD 02= power capacity A= open differential)
The VE got an RE4F04V (R=? E = Electric 4= speeds F = FWD 04= power capacity V= Viscous Limited Slip Differential)

it came out of a 1993 SE with only 89,000 original miles the guy at the junk yard used to own it and he had all paper work from nissan oil changes and everything...his timing belt broke...so he just junked it (what a waste of a car) it was in AWESOME condition it had a new performance clutch that i took (the one Mr. gone used to have like 3 of). so i got a deal.....$400 i got it for

If it came out of a 93 se then it did not have a timing belt.....and i would not hardly believe that a chain broke at 80,000 miles..

You already got your answer, no need to touch the TCU, just let it be. Or, you could rip out the F21 harness (the harness that connects the ECU & TCU with the engine and tranny) and install the F20 harness from the manual donor car. That way you'll have the electronics working immediatly instead of shorting a lot of cables as seen here (at the bottom of the page):

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/749143/3

And in this case you can take out the TCU as well.

kinda of hard to believe that the tranny came out an SE that the idiot that sold it to u told u that it broke the timing belt. what a dumbass. did u also get the axles and hubs with the tranny? cuz $400 seems a bit steep for just the tranny and the clutch that u got alone. i got my 5-spd. tranny out of a '91 SE can't remember the mileage on it back in Aug. of 04 for only $115 and it still works like a charm though i am now on the hunt for a VE 5-spd. tranny. i need that VLSD option in my car. good luck on the swap.

you missed my other thread on my A/T getting taken by the city

so the M/T car is going to be rebuilt with whatever parts I can scavenge from the A/T before the city grabs it.
