My transmission has decided that reverse, second, and fourth gear are bad.

Does anyone have any idea on the general cost of ...

1. Rebuilidng the trans. [not full, just the... distributer something or nother]
2. Replacing the trans with a manuel [if that's even possible with a 94 gxe]


and/or a good place to get that kinda thing done in Springfeild Mo?

Hey i am not to sure but if u dont mind me asking how many miles ur that beast when it dicided to crap out on u

 

it is possible to do i tranny swap from auto to 5spd ,, i never had it done but it seems that the swap if doing it yourself will run you around 1000-1500 , i could be wrong though,

 

an estimate would be somewhere around $1000 - $2500 to get the auto trans working again, depending on what the problem is (most likely like me and almost everyone else the lamellas and/or the torque converter and/or oil pressure problem), and depending on what area you live in, mechanics are like etc etc etc...

The cost of a rebuild has just as many ifs and buts, depending on if you'd do the job yourself and if you'd buy a whole parts car or just the stuff needed for the conversion which btw is possible on your car. there are a few things you need to check I belive, since you've got a 94. some of the guys with 92-94's might wanna hop in..? (especially thinking about the vlsd stuff)

but I'll tell you one thing for sure though; the 5spd swap is the most rewarding and cost effective way to go. you'll love it. if you have experience with cars you should definatly go ahead with that. that's my advice.

but before you do anything; check this list:
1. check electronics, there are some cases where this have worked. that includes all connectors to solenoids, ecu and stuff like that. here's a guide http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507 (page 14 & 15)
2. donate a couple of bucks and do a search on the forum, there are like... hundreds, perhaps more, threads, replies, guides and fixes for transmission problems.

and there should be a post about these kind of issues in the stickies as well somewhere. be sure tp read as much as you can before doing anything.

Go five speed swap, or look for a different car. You should be able to do the swap cheap. I bought a parts car for 400.

 

rebuildin' auto tranny = very expensive and may last a few months after rebuild.
5-speed conversion = alot of .org members have done it cuz its the cheapest way out plus u feel more power. i did it to mine and it was well worth it. i only spent about $240 for all the parts that i needed. others have either spent less than that or a bit over $450 for a complete parts car or just all the parts.
