ebay strut bars

Looking for a front strut bar for my '92 SE, I've seen some on ebay listed like here

And also the one's that say SOHC. Now I KNOW I have a DOHC, but really will there be a difference? I can't imagine spending $100+ for a strut bar just because it's "Cattman" or whatever. It is, after all, a piece of metal bridging two points, and that's it.

I will do Addco or something for the rear sway, but the front strut tower bar should be simple.

i bought one off of ebay and believe it did the job for me. i definitly believe as if the front has less sway around turns. for 15 bucks it was a deal. now maybe the more expensive one yields better handling, i don't know. any other opionions?

If you have a VE you are going to have to get a 5th gen strut bar...The ones on ebay for 3rd gens will only fit the vg....The ac lines are too tall on the passenger side...

That seems kinda hard, all of them seem to be curved. In fact, wouldn't it be impossible to find a curved one when the area is round? Or is the one in the pic from Wiking the one you guys are talking about?

Obviously I don't know what I'm looking for, anyone see an example on ebay?

I love this one but I'm sure that won't work, since it's rounded...?

Danke sohen in advance.

this is the only one I see from EBstores

That's probably not it.

Sigh.

I don't see any straight brackets on ebay, they are all half-moons or full circles.

I bought one off ebay for 9.95 and like 10 bucks to ship it. It seems to work quite well. Only thing is the bar pushing on the AC line. ;-(

I bought pretty much the same one. It's a 5th gen bar with one bracket higher than the other.

I have had mine for over two years with no problems. It touches the AC hose, but that hose has a foam surround. There is an indentation from the FSTB, but it hasn't torn it yet or anything.

that's the one.
the circle part is where it bolts to the strut tower, the bracket to the bar itself goes straight up

wonder why they don't make them more common for VE's. The $10 I paid for mine was the best $10 I ever spent on my car

But really, there is no difference, correct? All you need is the peice of metal connecting the 2 points and your good, right? No need to overpay for name branned FSTB?

I see. Sucks.. They probably just use better metals to put it all together as an excuse to the smart ones who really wanna find out why you pay so much for other reasons aside from the logo/namebrand.

I do not question stillens quality....I'm sure it is of good quality,i just don't see $100 of quality in it...It's just a piece of metal just like the others...

Yes, ski bag in back (rearseat), ski rack in front. Ready for winter...

As I had no experience in here, decided to tst what kinda hoax it is... Actually Thule works awesome! I am surprised how flex tha maxima chassis was. This bar must act as a counteforce in chassis torsion, thus affecting also rear tire angle. The strut towers cannot move while in a curve, otherwise I'd see the mudguard gaps widening/closing on both sides of the hood... Well, maybe u can find the facts via searching, this was just my noneducated guess.

As the bar allows increase in curve handling speed, it also causes minor change on rough road handling: luxury softness is lost, more towards racing. Me lazy man dont like that, except sometimes... Maybe? its attachement should open while cruising, lock down when hondas around (smell sensor?).

Would a strut bar make a difference in handling if you drive, for the most part, in city streets (<35mph), or is it only worth it for racing and highway speeds?

I lose.

Bought this one and it didn't fit. Length was right, but when placed to fit one side of the strut bolts, the other side didn't come close to matching. With the bar sitting on both sides, the holes no longer matched up for the bolts.

Unless someone's getting rid of one, an otto is in my future, I suppose. But oh, the cost...

Hmm...so essentially make the bar as short as possible lengthwise, and then...uh...jeez, I'm not picturing it. It's like if I put one end on, all of the strut bolts fit the circle perfectly, but then the other end is like 2-3 inches off the other strut tower, like going towards the window. If both ends are just sitting on top of the towers, then only one bolt on each tower will hit a hole.

Small consolation is that it doesn't have a clearance problem with the AC lines.

Is new Sentra's strut bar going to fit 3d gen Maximas? I was at the dealer about 3 years ago and they had a Sentra sitting there with the open hood. It had a stock strut bar on... Must be too short for us, but what if not?

Ebay rods are edjustable. And work fine. The one I got off ebay was about $13. But hey if you don't have anything else worth spending money on. 150 plus ship is the way to go.
