Aight...this is my second harness that has burned...am I doing something wrong? The bulbs I'm using are Hiper Industries so that should be fine...I don't get it.
First...the passenger side black wire gets really hot and burns through the plastic. Now the black wire on the drivers side is extremely hot and has almost burned through the plastic. What's up with that? Why would the APC harness get so hot...the black wire specifically.
Please help!!!

Are the fuses you're running the right size? Also, the black wire is getting hot due to the direction of current. You should go ahead and replace the wire since it's already damaged with a larger guage wire so that the current can be carried more easily. Hope that helps and solves the problem.

Did you check your fuses? More likely than not, whatever your installed is pulling more juice than what the harness is designed to handle, and because your fuse is not blowing out (and therefore saving your harness) is causing your wires to burn.

As I understand the fuses are under the hood by the battery right? I took the fuse and replaced it with a 20...is that enough?
In terms of the harness it's already an APC upgraded harness so shouldn't that be good enough? That should be big enough gauge wire.
Any other suggestions?

As far as I know there are fuses in the engine cabine and on your driver's cabin. I don't understand why would you use the fuses on the engine. Do not! I repeat...DO NOT replace a fuse with a more powerful fuse with the hopes of preventing a blow out. You're bound to cause more damage by doing so. If your wiring is designed to handle 15 amps, and you put a 20 amp fuse - YOU WILL BURN YOUR WIRES. if your wire is thick enough, still - you RUN the risk of BURNING THE REST OF WIRES. A fuse blow out protects serious damage to the rest of circuits.

The engine fuse box has the fuse for the left and right headlight...as I understand. I replaced those fuses with higher ones. Is that bad?

Yo my man. DO NOT USE HIGHER FUSES THAN WHAT'S RECOMMEDED. You're asking for trouble. Tell you a story: I had a problem with my fog lights. They were constantly blowing out...The fuse that is. I re-wired the fog lights, used a thicker wire and all. In fact, the fog lights required a 15 amp but, to prevent a blow out, I chose to use a 20 amp fuse. Everything was fine for about 3 weeks. When suddenly, on a rainy night (it always happens on rainy nights), as I'm driving, thick gray smoke filled the cabin! I quickly pulled, over shut the engine, and opened my fuse box. The fog light fuse was melted. I tried to start the engine, and to no avail. I got towed and three days later My Max ended up at the dealer. Got a brand new harness, and a whole bunch of **** that the dealer made me believe I needed because "all that aftermarket stuff is not good for your car". In short, I got my entire harness re-wired at a price tag of $3000!

Now my man, do as you wish.

Ok..that's it..I've had enough trouble with that POS!!! I am going to use stock wattage bulbs and just throw out that "upgrade" harness and repair my stock sockets.
Thanks for the help...I'll make sure to put the 15amp fuses back in there.

Thanks for the help,
Roman
