my battery keeps on dying on my 92 max so i had it checked out at the local nissan dealership and they said i need a new alternator and i would end up dropping like 400 bucks on it. does that sound a little high or is it just me? how hard would it be to do it myself??

You should search for previous posts on this subject. You can get an aftermarket for around $100. It's not hard to install but you have gotta get under the engine.

Also I know that the alt. in your car is externally regulated, and if the new alt. does not come with a new regulator you should definitly get a new regulator (~$15) and do a good install with the new ground connection on the regulator.
