Max got INJURED.....quarter panel....pics

I was pulling out of parking space at school, and then I saw an SUV pulling out in front of me.
So I stopped and she kept going. Before I could honk, her right
rear bumper hit my left quarter panel, and my whole car rocked back and forth once.

I got out right away, and she peeked out her window and said soory.
I was like, "um were gonna have to exchange info. becuase its pretty bad". She said "really". So we ended up exchanging info,
and she requested me not to call my insurance company and just get an
estimate and we will deal with it out of insurance. Has anyone ever
done this before??

Another good thing is that when I went to get her insurance/license
info, a lady came up to my friend in my car, and said "Don't worry,
I saw it all", and gave him a paper with her name and phone number
on it. So here's the damage. My door lights stayed on because
the rear passesnger door didn't make contact with the sensor.
So I stuffed some paper in there, and now the sensor gets pushed back,
so I think the frame may be a little bent???? I hope I don't need a new quarter panel.
Heres the pics... How bad IS IT??

I doubt frame damage but it's gonna cost like 500 to get it good as new. 1/4 panel damge is the worst.

Ouch man... you could pop it back out, but the hardest part is going to be near the top. Those curves are a pain when they're bent. Take a good look to the left of the antenna, you'll see where it now sticks up above the natural line.

I tried doing the whole non-insurance thing, I rubbed my truck up against a Saturn and popped the lady's door rods. Turned out she was a friend of a buddy of mine. So I talked to her, and got her to agree to letting me fix it.

The only damage was door rods and scuffed clear coat. Easy enough, open the door up, reconnect the rods, polish the scuffs out and wax. But she changed her mind and wanted the insurance to do it... bad thing is she tried scamming my insurance. She tried charging over $600. I told my insurance company what was up, they investigated, now she's in trouble for insurance fraud. There was more damage to my truck than her saturn. I still have trouble with my headlight assembly staying straight.

You can go the non-insurance route, but I would get a written contract or something. But I've learned to quit being a nice guy, any problems I get into now, that person is getting screwed.

unless you know the person, i wouldn't do any kind of no insurance thing. you'll get the shaft 3 out of 4 times. what you better do is go file a police report. if the woman tries to weasle out, you have some backup to go after her.

Get a few written estimates and if she's willing to pay cash for a proper repair go for it..

That is a lot more than $500.

Unless you think she can come up with close to a grand in cash, I would just go through insurance. If it's not your fault, it's not your problem.

i had some damage just like that. http://gregg-henry.com/gallery/accidents-happen?page=1

i had mine fixed for about 600 bucks. the guy did a great job, but its hard to find someone to do work for such a price. u might end up needing a new door too, im not sure.

as far as the no insurance route. be careful and dont get scammed. make sure its all in writing. make sure she doesnt try to pull a fast one basically.

Yeah usually people who say lets go non-insurance don't have it or their rates are real high. I'd go with insurance route and say that your radio antenna was broken by her.

In the great state of Michigan, we have no-fault insurance. Basically, if you don't have full coverage, you put your ride at risk every time you drive it. and full coverage is a little pricey for my wallet. We need to take away all of these honkin' SUV's from soccer moms, and give them golf carts!

I think body work might look easy to do, but it is pretty difficult.

gonna need a quarter. Lots of work but can be done if you have the tools, can have the car down for a while and are patient.

I have done 3 quarter swaps on 3rd gens.

pull the rear window, cut the spot welds, cut the c pillar in a nice spot (bout half way), spot weld new piece in making sure its all aligned correctly, weld seam where you meet on the c pillar.

sounds easy right

good luck and dont think you can get it fixed right for $500. Heck I would charge more than that and I am not a pro.

You can always pull it out and fill it with bondo but I wouldnt.

I did the non insurance thing once and I think its a good idea as long as you do it correctly. This stupid mid 50s-60s lady in a corolla side swiped my accord when it was parked in a big street at midnight with like NOOO traffic at all, i had my mirror closed in since it was on the street, even the freakin mirror didnt get away. luckily my friend was in the passenger side listening to music while I was inside my friends house fixin a PC, she was gonna drive away(she was slowly taking off but it was a red light) he started honking crazy and called me. No big damage, just a lil mark on my door and raped mirror. So my dumb *** went inside and checked how much it was on ebay and charged her like 30 bucks more. So I got like 80 dollars and ended up getting a mirror from my friend for 20 bucks...........3 months later, I get off work and go open my door and to my surprise a very loud noise was heard and the door bent my fender inward. Anyway sorry about the boring story, but if you're gonna do it without insurance make sure you both get a letter stating that she paid and put in detail what she paid for. I did it because I didnt want anything going in my driving record, I heard that even if its not your fault it goes down that you had an accident, therefore if you want insurance quotes the premium will be higher.

I got an estimate yesterday for $1500. The guy at the body shop said he wants to replace the whole quarter panel. I called the girl this morning, and she said to call her dad. Called dad, and he wants to come take a look at it, and dad is saying that it's both of your faults, I'm like WWWHHHHAAATTT!!!!! I was'nt moving. He said we will talk when he comes.....

I hate this part..

lol whatever you do, keep fighting that since you were not at fault, he's trying to get you to admit something that you didnt do. Cant believe he had the odasity to say that. Oh and charge a little more than the estimate just for the troubles. 1500 is just the work done but look at all the trouble you have gone through

plus, estimates sometimes have a way of growing.
I had a similar accident when my mom hit my car. new fender, new paint job, door still slightly hits quarter panel. body shop was a nightmare to work with(paint bubbles still on my spoiler 3 times repainted).

The girl's old man is going to refuse to pay anything. I hope you filed a police report, cause they aren't going to pay you squat.

when you turn in an accident report to insurance companies, they look over the police report and they decide who was in the right, who was in the wrong. what you say or what her/her daddy says (who wasn't there and in court would be told to shut up and sit down) doesn't matter to the insurance companies.

i am not optimistic about this new twist with daddy.

DUDE get an estimate at $1500.00 somewhere, take the money from her, then just do the work yourself, congratulations you just made $1500.00, just pound on it a little with a rubber hammer it'll look fine, ask yourself if its really worth $1500.00 to fix a 15 year old car. Its like my good friend .38 Special said "Go on, take the money and run."

NO!!! Do NOT let her do this without the insurance company! I made this mistake once, I will never do it again. Remember, her insurance rates are not your problem. If she was worried about her rates she would have driven more carefully.

Daggett92: Are you realy that ignorant that a rubber hammer will do anything to that type of damage?
I been doing collision repair for over 15yrs now. It needs a quarter panel! Look at the door gap!!!!
Honestly people who are not in the body industry have NO CLUE how much time it takes to do collision or restoration the right way!!! Good supplies are EXPENCIVE!
For 1500.00 they are not replacing the quarter I can assure you of that!!! Nissan quarter panels are around 500.00 list. At least 10hrs replace time 2.8 paint time 1.2 blend door 1.5 blend trunk 1.2 blend bumper Plus suppies and California is much more expencive that IN. I'll bet it's fix quarter that's estimated or it'll be totaled.
Good luck!
