one other thing, i hear a kind of hissing now that i did this and put it all back together, i am thinking a vacuum leak......all hoses are connected and engine is running pretty rough. any ideas.....the leak seems to be near the oil filler neck...in that area any input appreciated

that's normal for an intake manifold on a 10+yr old car.
mine was like that from my 93 back in about 1999 when I tore it apart. http://blehmco.com/pics/old_max/car/intake_manifold/

yes, you have a vacuum leak somewhere.. look around, you'll find it.

yeah thats normal on ur car. when i took my low mileage motor apart before i dropped it into my '93 it looked just like that. i think i have the pics in my cardomain site on the last page so ur good. just clean it out and u'll be fine. i used carb cleaner and then i just sand blasted all the intake components for my motor and it worked out great.

why are you taking random parts off for experimentation purposes when the car runs perfectly fine? remember, it's your transmission that's the problem..

any improvemnt it might make in my opinion is not worth the time it would take to make it spotless. but yeah i would clean it up some. just don't spend all day doing it. and make sure it don't fall inside your intake. i did scared the crap out of me thought that my friends little brother threw a nail down the intake. sounded like someone threw a bunch of sand in the cylinders. but it went away 2 seconds later. you know if your going to brake down your engine again why not paint your valve covers while your at it? you pretty much have everything else out of the way. just a thought...

was the crack in the gasket near a bolt? that would indicate that you are over tightening the bolts which could cause warping of the manifold over time.

how do you know that's where your leak is? i'm not saying it isn't, but you've said it runs like complete crap now that you've put it back together so it's not even fixed. i still don't understand why you're wasting your time with this... get the car drivable and then worry about a measly air leak.

get yourself a bottle of seafoam, and go to town. and a bottle of carb cleaner while you got the manifold off.
has anyone put individual throttle boddies on a maxima before? a vg anyways?
that would be sick
i wonder what kind of numbers you could push out of that?
hmmmmmm

also how long did it take to pull your intake manifold off?

I didn't say that it was a nail it just sounded like it it was the build up on my injectors. it just worked its was threw the exhaust. the sound went away after 2 - 5 seconds

Make sure you're getting the right parts, dude..
the intake manifold has three gaskets.
nissanparts.cc prices:
16175-89E00 Gasket-throttle body $4.51
14032-89E01 Gasket-manifold (lower to collector) $6.86 <------------- this is the one you need.

14035-V5205 Gasket-manifold (lower to head 1993+) $4.88 (2 needed)
14035-V5202 Gasket-manifold (lower to head 89-92) $27.74 (2 needed)

If you're spending more than $10 for one gasket, then you're getting screwed.
I'm goign to guess that if you're buying the fel pro gasket at Vatozone, you're buying the entire upper/lower set, including the pair of $27 gaskets.
