What is whining in my max? Help!

My 89 vg maxima is whining when it is either in prk or drive it only whines at like 2000 rpms above that it just gradually increases the sound.

Could it be the timing belt , or the alternator ?

Thanks in advanced for the help!

Does it whine all the time or just in park and drive? Can you tell which side the whine is originating from? Need more info !!

Seems like it is coming from the timing belt side of engine..........

It only whines when the engine is reved to 2000 or over, in all posible gears

Car Domain is DOWN!!

Both in drive and in park if the motor is speed up yo 2000 rpms it starts to make a whine sound (almost like a turbo charger winding up!)
(I am not trying to flatter myself, but that is what it sounds like)

Could it be my timing belt do they whine when they get older?

No have not messed with the stero I do have a amp but it is properly grounded........

Thanks for the suggestion

So is it a "squealing" or a "whining" noise? If it's a whining noise then you might be low on power steering fluid. Check the fluid and let us know what happens.

Check your PS fluid level as someone already suggested.

whining noise from the passenger side of the engine compartment is super-common on a vg. tons of threads have been made on this subject, tons of people have the same whine. check the search and you'll find them.
